정총리 "정부정책 마음에 안 들어도 방역 해쳐선 안돼"

(서울=연합뉴스) 박경준 기자 = 정세균 국무총리는 7일 일부 극우단체가 개천절인 다음 달 3일 대규모 집회를 예고한 것을 두고 "정부 정책이 마음에 안 들거나 문제가 있어도 방역을 해치며 그런 일(집회)을 해서는 안 된다"고 말했다.

정 총리는 이날 MBN '뉴스와이드'에 출연해 "국민 모두가 방역에 협력하는 것은 자신과 가족과 이웃과 국민을 위해 필요한 것이기 때문"이라면서 이같이 밝혔다.

정 총리는 "정부 정책에 문제가 있어도 온당한 방법으로 의사를 표시해야지, 방역에 협조하지 않고 방해하는 행위는 어떤 경우에도 용납될 수 없다"고 거듭 강조했다.

지난달 25일 국회에 출석해 8·15 광화문 집회를 허용한 법원 결정을 잘못됐다고 비판한 데 대해 '삼권분립에 어긋난다'는 지적이 나오는 것을 놓고는 "총리라고 해서 모든 것에 입을 닫아야 하는 것은 아니다"라고 반박했다.

정 총리는 "아무 말을 안 하면 (집회가) 괜찮다는 것으로 받아들일 국민도 있을 수 있다"며 개천절 집회 허용 여부를 결정할 법원의 현명한 판단을 기대한다고 언급했다.

신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 백신과 치료제가 개발될 시점을 묻자 정 총리는 "치료제는 이르면 금년 말, 백신은 내년 연말쯤 돼야 나올 것 같다"고 대답했다.

코로나19 재확산 위기 속에 정부의 의료 정책을 두고 정부와 의사협회 등이 대립했던 원인과 관련해선 "정책에 대한 국민 지지가 있다"면서도 "확인해 보니 (정부와 의료계 간) 논의가 충분하지 못했다는 생각을 하게 된다"고 지적했다.

한편, 정 총리는 대선을 염두에 두고 있는지를 묻자 "여러 자리에서 일했는데 지금 하는 일이 가장 무겁고 일이 많다"며 "지금 제게 주어진 책무를 정성껏 하는 것 외에 다른 생각을 하는 것은 옳지 않다"고 말했다.

대권주자들의 장점을 꼽아 달라는 요청에는 짤막한 답변을 내놨다.

정 총리는 더불어민주당 이낙연 대표에 대해 "상황을 정확하고 예리하게 표현해 명쾌하게 정리하는 역량이 있다"고 밝혔다.

이재명 경기지사에 대해서는 거침없고 소신 있는 태도를, 국민의힘 김종인 비상대책위원장에 대해서는 노련미를 장점으로 들었다.
