(서울=연합뉴스) 현혜란 기자 = 마이크로소프트(MS)가 중국 소셜미디어 틱톡의 해외사업을 모두 인수하는 방안을 추진 중이라고 AFP, 블룸버그 통신이 6일(현지시간) 영국 파이낸셜타임스(FT)를 인용해 보도했다.

MS는 앞서 틱톡을 운영하는 바이트댄스 측과 미국뿐만 아니라 캐나다, 호주, 뉴질랜드 사업 인수를 모색하고 있다고 밝혔는데 이를 넘어 인도, 유럽 사업 인수까지도 고려하고 있다는 게 보도의 골자다.

바이트댄스의 아시아태평양 사업을 잘 아는 한 인사는 MS가 틱톡을 지역별로 분리해 운영했을 때 발생할 수 있는 문제점을 염두에 두고 여러 가능성을 고려하고 있다는 취지로 설명했다.

여기서 말하는 문제점이란 예를 들어 인사 담당 부서와 같은 후방 지원 조직을 지역별로 따로 관리하는 일이 쉽지 않다거나, 틱톡 이용자가 다른 나라를 여행할 때 틱톡 사용에 불편이 있을 수 있다는 점 등이다.

도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령은 개인정보 유출과 국가안보 위협 우려를 이유로 미국에서 틱톡 사용을 금지하겠다는 방침을 밝혔다가 9월 15일로 틱톡의 매각 시한을 통보했다.

10∼20대 사이에서 선풍적인 인기를 끌고 있는 틱톡은 15초짜리 짧은 동영상을 제작해 공유하는 애플리케이션으로, 전 세계 150여개 국가에 10억명이 넘는 사용자를 보유하고 있다.
