"다시 일상으로"…EBS국제다큐영화제 17일부터 일주일간 향연

30개국 69편…극장 상영 없이 TV·온라인에서만

(서울=연합뉴스) 송은경 기자 = 올해로 17회를 맞은 EBS국제다큐영화제(EIDF)가 오는 17일 막을 올린다.

'다시 일상으로 - 다큐, 내일을 꿈꾸다'라는 슬로건으로 진행되는 이번 영화제는 30개국 69편의 다큐멘터리가 일주일간 지상파 EBS 1TV와 EIDF의 주문형 비디오(VOD) 서비스 '디박스'(D-BOX)로 상영된다.

작년보다 영화제 개최 기간과 상영 편수는 줄었지만, 처음으로 인더스트리 마켓이 생기고 경쟁부문 관객심사단이 구성됐다.

올해는 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 예방을 위한 사회적 거리 두기 일환으로 극장 상영은 생략한다. 다만 경기 고양시 일산호수공원 '노래하는 분수대'에서 열리는 야외 상영은 방역 수칙 준수 아래 예년과 같이 진행된다.

류재호 EIDF 집행위원장은 4일 중구 코리아나호텔에서 열린 기자간담회에서 "우리 사회 경제 모든 분야에서 우리가 경험하지 못했던 엄청난 일을 경험하고 있다. 영화제 쪽도 상황이 안 좋기는 마찬가지"라며 입을 열었다.

류 위원장은 "칸영화제, 전주영화제 등 우리가 알고 있는 대부분의 영화제가 취소되거나 온라인으로 변경됐다. EIDF 또한 극장상영과 일반 이벤트가 취소돼 아쉽지만, 방송과 디박스를 통해 60여편의 최신 다큐멘터리 영화를 소개하게 돼 다행"이라고 말했다.

경쟁부문인 '페스티벌 초이스'는 올해 '글로벌'과 '아시아' 두 부문으로 나뉘어 아시아 다큐멘터리 쪽을 강조한다. 글로벌 부문에선 오민욱 감독의 '해협'을 포함한 7편이, 아시아 부문에선 5편이 상영된다.

전체 프로그램 섹션은 총 12개로, '한국 다큐멘터리 파노라마' '월드 쇼케이스' '예술하다' '다큐 속 무형유산' 등은 전년에 이어 올해도 유지된다. 특별섹션으로는 각각 교육, 여성, 영화계 거장을 주제로 한 '내일의 교육' '여, 성(聲)', '마스터스' 등이 있다.

'매들린, 런웨이의 다운증후군 소녀'

개막작 '매들린, 런웨이의 다운증후군 소녀'는 다운증후군을 가진 세계 최초의 슈퍼모델 타이틀에 도전하는 매들린 스튜어트의 여정을 담는 작품이다. 뉴욕 패션위크 런웨이에 선 경력이 있고 페이스북에서 70만명 팔로워를 가진 매들린의 길을 따라가며 관객들은 정체성, 아름다움, 장애에 대한 일반적인 인식을 재고하게 된다.

김다혜 프로그래머는 "매들린과 그의 어머니가 서로 의지하는 모습에서 EIDF가 주고자 하는 희망의 메시지를 발견할 수 있다"고 설명했다.

EIDF는 올해 신설된 인더스트리 마켓으로 다큐멘터리 산업과 제작 활성화를 위한 지원을 강화한다.

기획·개발 단계 프로젝트만 진행하던 기존과 달리 올해 EIDF에선 국내 제작지원기관과 파트너십을 체결해 피치(pitch) 프로그램 3개, 아카데미 프로그램 2개로 규모를 확장했다. 다큐멘터리 펀드 주체와 프로듀서가 만나는 라운드 미팅 테이블도 마련했다.

형건 사무국장은 인더스트리 마켓에 대해 "독립감독, 독립프로듀서들은 코로나19 때문에 펀딩이 끊기고 영화제들이 취소되면서 작품을 소개하는 길도 막혔다"면서 "우연이지만 (지원) 기회가 잘 맞아떨어지지 않았나 싶다"고 의의를 설명했다.
