길리어드 "10월까지 전세계 렘데시비르 수요 맞출듯"

"9월까지는 비축량 대부분 미국서 사용…연말까지 200만명 이상 치료분 생산"

코로나19 치료제 '렘데시비르' 국내 공급

(서울=연합뉴스) 윤고은 기자 = 세계적으로 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 기세가 꺾이지 않는 가운데, 코로나19 치료제로 긴급사용 승인을 받은 유일한 약인 렘데시비르의 공급이 오는 10월이면 원활해질 전망이다.

30일(현지시간) 월스트리트저널(WSJ)·블룸버그통신 등에 따르면 렘데시비르의 제조사인 미국 제약사 길리어드사이언스의 조애나 머시어 최고홍보책임자(CCO)는 이날 2분기 실적 발표 후 투자자들과의 컨퍼런스콜에서 "10월초면 렘데시비르의 세계적 수요를 맞출 수 있을 것으로 본다"고 밝혔다.

길리어드는 이달부터 코로나19 중증환자를 위해 렘데시비르를 판매하기 시작했으나 복잡한 공정과 코로나19 봉쇄에 따른 공급망 붕괴로 세계적 수요를 맞추지 못해왔다.

그러나 머시어 CCO는 공급망이 회복되고 있다면서 올 연말까지 200만명 이상 치료분(5일 과정)을, 내년말까지는 수백만명 치료분을 더 생산할 것이라고 기대했다.

다만 그전까지는 미국 이외 지역에서는 렘데시비르 수급이 쉽지 않을 전망이다.

길리어드의 대니얼 오데이 최고경영자(CEO)는 9월말까지는 현재 비축량 대부분이 미국에서 사용될 것이라고 밝혔다. 나머지는 코로나19 상황이 심각한 나라들에 할당된다.

앞서 전날 유럽연합(EU) 행정부 격인 집행위원회는 길리어드와 6천300만 유로(약 883억원) 규모의 렘데시비르 구매 계약을 했다. 이는 코로나19 중증 환자 약 3만명 치료 분량이다.

EU 집행위는 8월 초부터 EU 회원국과 영국에서 렘데시비르 사용이 가능할 것이라고 밝혔다.

길리어드는 렘데시비르를 미국에서는 환자당 3천120달러(약 370만원)에, 유럽과 다른 개발도상국들에는 2천340달러(약 278만원)에 판매하고 있다.

항바이러스제인 렘데시비르는 애초 에볼라 치료제로 개발됐으나, 최근 미국에서 진행한 초기 임상시험에서 코로나19 입원 환자의 회복 기간을 31% 줄였다는 발표가 나오면서 주목받았다.

한편 이같은 렘데시비르의 '인기'에도 길리어드의 2분기 매출은 51억달러로 작년 동기 대비 10% 줄었다.

코로나19 봉쇄 등으로 환자들이 병원을 찾지 않으면서 항생제, 간염 치료제 등 이 회사의 다른 의약품 판매가 저조한 가운데 아직 렘데시비르의 판매 효과는 본격화하지 않은 탓이다.
