(브뤼셀=연합뉴스) 김정은 특파원 = 유럽연합(EU) 행정부 수반 격인 우르줄라 폰데어라이엔 집행위원장이 라트비아 출신의 발디스 돔브로우스키스 부집행위원장을 통상 담당 집행위원에 지명했다고 AP 통신 등이 8일(현지시간) 전했다.

통상 담당 집행위원은 미국, 중국, EU에서 탈퇴한 영국과의 통상 문제를 다루는 중요한 직책이다.

당초 이 자리에 있던 아일랜드 출신의 필 호건은 최근 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 관련 방역 지침을 위반하고 골프 모임에 참석했다가 논란을 일으킨 뒤 사임했다.

돔브로우스키스 경제 담당 부집행위원장은 호건 전 집행위원이 지난달 26일 사임한 이래 임시로 통상 업무를 맡아왔다.

우르줄라 폰데어라이엔 집행위원장은 이와 함께 유럽의회 의원인 아일랜드의 머레이드 맥기니스를 금융 서비스 담당 집행위원에 지명했다.

두 사람 모두 유럽의회의 승인을 받아야 한다. 맥기니스의 지명이 확정될 경우 EU 집행위원단은 여성 13명, 남성 14명으로 구성되게 된다.

집행위원단은 한국으로 치면 행정부처 장관 또는 국무위원단에 해당한다. 집행위원단에는 집행위원장을 포함해 회원국별로 각 1명의 집행위원이 참여한다.
