(서울=연합뉴스) 김은경 기자 = 공산품 겉면에 붙은 분리배출 표시에 '알루미늄', '유리' 등 제품의 재질이 무엇인지만 적지 않고 분리배출 방법까지 알기 쉽게 기재하는 방안이 추진된다.

환경부는 이러한 내용을 담은 '포장재 재질구조 등급표시 및 분리배출 표시에 관한 고시' 개정안을 10일부터 20일간 행정예고한다고 9일 밝혔다.

기존의 분리배출 표시는 '분리배출 표시에 관한 지침'에 따른 적정 도안을 사용해야 한다. 제품·포장재의 정면·측면 또는 바코드 상하좌우에 심벌마크 크기를 8㎜ 이상으로 표시하는 것이 원칙이다.

이번 개정안에서는 분리배출 표시를 '철', '알루미늄', '고밀도 폴리에틸렌'(HDPE) 등 재질명에 더해 '깨끗이 씻어서', '라벨을 떼서' 등 배출 방법을 함께 표기하도록 했다.

분리배출 표시의 심벌마크 크기도 8㎜에서 12㎜로 확대해 더 쉽게 분리배출 방법을 알 수 있도록 개선했다. 환경부는 틀리기 쉬운 분리배출 사례도 그림으로 정리해 알릴 예정이다.

환경부는 업계부담을 줄이기 위해 2021년까지 기존 도안과 변경된 도안을 모두 허용해 순차적으로 도안을 개선할 계획이다. 아울러 이번 행정예고와 관련한 의견을 폭넓게 수렴한 후 개정안을 최종 확정하기로 했다.

환경부는 분리배출표시 의무 대상 제품·포장재의 분리배출표시 여부 등을 지방자치단체, 한국환경공단과 함께 15일부터 약 2주간 집중적으로 조사한다.

또 지자체와 함께 사회관계망(SNS) 등 다양한 온라인 소통창구 활용하는 한편 홍보 도우미를 공동주택 분리배출 현장에 배치하는 등 여러 방식으로 올바른 분리배출 방법을 홍보할 예정이다.
