중독증세 나발니 치료 러 병원 "'노비촉' 중독 아닌 대사증후군"

'신경작용제 노비촉 중독' 독일 주장 재차 반박…러, 독일 대사 초치

(모스크바=연합뉴스) 유철종 특파원 = 독극물 중독 증세로 독일 병원에서 치료를 받고 있는 러시아의 대표적 야권 운동가 알렉세이 나발니 사건과 관련, 그를 처음으로 치료했던 러시아 병원 측이 8일(현지시간) 독일 측의 중독설을 거듭 반박하고 나섰다.

인테르팍스 통신에 따르면 나발니가 처음으로 입원했던 시베리아 도시 옴스크 '제1응급의료병원'의 급성중독과 과장 알렉산드르 사바예프는 이날 나발니가 옛 소련시절 개발된 신경작용제인 '노비촉'에 중독됐다는 독일 측 주장과 관련 "이는 확실히 노비촉이 아니다. 중독도 아니다"라고 반박했다.

그러면서 "이는 대사증후군(metabolic syndrome) 질환으로, 급속히 진행된 물질대사 장애에 따른 혼수상태"라고 진단했다.

사바예프는 나발니가 옴스크 병원에 입원해 있는 동안 러시아의 저명 의사들이 참여하는 8차례의 협진이 있었고 60차례의 생화학검사, 몇차례의 심전도 검사, 첨단설비를 이용한 지속적 관찰 등이 이루어졌지만 위중한 상태에 대한 원인은 확인되지 않았다고 설명했다.

이어 러시아 의료진도 중독 가능성을 첫 번째 가설로 설정하고 이를 검증하기 위한 검사를 가장 먼저 했지만 8시간 뒤에 독극물은 없는 것으로 나타났다고 강조했다.

모스크바 시정부 산하 '스클리포소프스키 응급연구소'도 앞서 나발니 검체에 대한 분석 결과 노비촉 계열을 포함한 독극물 성분이 발견되지 않았다고 밝힌 바 있다.

나발니는 지난달 20일 러시아 국내선 항공기에서 갑자기 쓰러진 뒤 혼수상태에 빠져 옴스크 병원에 입원했다가 이틀 뒤 독일 시민단체의 지원으로 베를린의 샤리테 병원으로 옮겨져 치료를 받고 있다.

그는 7일 혼수상태에서 깨어나 언어 자극에 반응하는 등 호전되고 있다고 병원 측은 밝혔다.

사건 직후 나발니 측은 독극물 공격을 받은 것이라고 주장했지만, 러시아 당국은 나발니에게서 독극물 흔적이 발견되지 않았다는 입장을 밝혀왔다.

하지만 독일 정부는 지난 2일 연방군 연구시설의 검사 결과 나발니가 러시아에서 개발된 신경작용제인 노비촉에 노출됐다는 "의심할 여지 없는 증거"가 있다고 밝혔다.

냉전 시절 말기에 옛 소련이 개발한 노비촉은 신체에 사용되면 신경세포 간 소통에 지장을 줘 호흡 정지, 심장마비, 장기손상 등을 초래하는 것으로 알려져 있다.

독일 정부는 러시아 정부가 이번 사건의 진상 규명에 협조하지 않을 경우 유럽연합(EU)과 함께 대러 제재에 나설 수 있다고 압박하고 있다.

하지만 중독설을 부인하는 러시아는 독일 측에 나발니에 대한 검사 자료를 먼저 제공하라고 요구하고 있다.

러시아 외무부는 이날 독일 측이 주장하는 독극물 중독설에 대한 설명을 듣기 위해 모스크바 주재 독일 대사를 초치했다고 밝혔다.
