메르켈, 러시아 진상조사 안하면 노르트스트림2 재고하겠다 압박

'푸틴 정적' 나발니 의식불명…독극물 중독 증세

7일(현지시간) 쥐트도이체차이퉁(SZ) 등에 따르면 나발니를 치료 중인 베를린 샤리테병원은 나발니가 혼수상태에서 깨어나 말을 걸 수 있는 상태라고 밝혔다.

샤리테병원은 "단계적으로 인공호흡기를 제거할 계획"이라며 "그는 언어적 자극에 반응하고 있다"고 말했다.

그러면서 "심각한 독극물 중독에 따른 장기적 후유증을 여전히 배제할 수 없다"고 덧붙였다.

나발니는 지난달 20일 러시아 국내선 항공기에서 갑자기 쓰러져 혼수상태에 빠졌고, 이틀 뒤 독일 시민단체의 지원으로 베를린으로 옮겨졌다.

사건 직후 나발니 측은 독극물에 공격받은 것이라고 주장했지만, 러시아 당국은 나발니에게서 독극물의 흔적이 없었다는 입장을 보여왔다.

하지만 독일 정부는 지난 2일 연방군 연구시설의 검사 결과 나발니가 구소련시절 사용되던 신경작용제인 노비촉에 노출됐다는 "의심의 여지 없는 증거"가 있다고 밝혔다.

냉전 시대 말기에 구소련이 개발한 노비촉은 신체에 노출되면 신경세포 간 소통에 지장을 줘 호흡 정지, 심장마비, 장기손상 등을 초래한다.

나발니 사건은 2014년 러시아의 우크라이나 크림반도 강제합병 이후 급격히 악화한 독러관계를 더욱 급랭시키고 있다.

독일 정부는 러시아에 이번 사건의 진상 규명에 협조하지 않을 경우 유럽연합(EU)과 함께 제재에 나설 수 있다고 압박하고 있다.

앙겔라 메르켈 독일 총리는 이날 러시아와 독일을 잇는 천연가스관 사업인 '노르트 스트림2'를 재고할 수 있다는 방침을 밝혔다. 노르트 스트림2가 완공되면 독일에 대한 러시아의 천연가스 수출은 2배로 늘어나게 된다.

메르켈 총리 대변인은 러시아가 나발니의 독살 시도에 대한 진상조사에 나서지 않는다면 러시아에 노르트 스트림2를 포함한 제재를 가할 가능성을 배제할 수 없다고 밝혔다.

그는 독일의 대응은 향후 며칠간 러시아가 취하는 조처에 달렸다고 밝혔다.

EU와 북대서양조약기구(NATO·나토)의 대러 압박에 이어 미첼 바첼레트 유엔 인권최고대표도 8일 성명에서 철저하고 공정한 수사를 요구했다.

'나발니 중독 사건' 언급하는 메르켈 총리

러시아는 나발니에 대한 독살 시도에 대한 일체의 책임을 부인했다. 러시아는 나발니의 병환에 대한 예비조사를 시작했지만, 제대로 된 진상조사에는 착수하지 않은 상태다.

드미트리 페스코프 크렘린궁 대변인은 "나발니에 대한 독살시도가 어떤 약물에 의해 이뤄졌는지에 대한 독일 의료진의 결론을 받으면 조사가 시작될 수 있다"면서 "독일이 노르트스트림2를 막을 위험은 없을 것으로 본다"고 말했다.

나발니가 입원했던 시베리아 도시 옴스크 제1응급의료병원 측도 독일 측 발표를 부인하며 "대사증후군 질환으로 급속히 진행된 물질대사 장애에 따른 혼수상태"라고 반박했다.
