WHO, '성급한 백신 양산' 러시아에 안전지침 준수 촉구(종합)

(제네바=연합뉴스) 임은진 특파원 = 세계보건기구(WHO)가 4일(현지시간) 러시아의 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 백신 양산 계획에 백신에 대한 효과·안전성 지침을 준수할 것을 촉구했다고 AFP 통신이 보도했다.

크리스티안 린트마이어 WHO 대변인은 이날 유엔 제네바 사무소 정례 브리핑에서 "어떤 백신이든 다양한 임상 시험과 검사를 거쳐야 한다"면서 이같이 말했다.

그는 "무엇을 위한 백신인지, 누구에게 도움을 줄 수 있는지, 부정적인 부작용이 있는지를 확실히 알기 위해서는 이런 것들(지침)을 반드시 지켜야 한다"고 강조했다.

그러나 그는 러시아 백신의 사용에 대해 WHO가 공식적인 통지를 받지 못했다며 "만일 공식적인 어떤 것이 있다면 WHO 유럽 사무소에서 분명히 이것을 조사할 것"이라고 덧붙였다. WHO의 유럽 사무소는 덴마크 코펜하겐에 있다.

앞서 타스 통신에 따르면 러시아는 자체 개발한 백신 두 종류의 생산을 9월과 10월에 각각 시작할 계획이라고 밝혔다.

이 가운데 가말레야 국립 전염병·미생물학 센터가 개발 중인 백신은 7월 중순 임상 1상을 마무리했고, 국립 바이러스·생명공학 연구센터 벡토르가 개발하는 백신은 6월 27일 임상 1상을 시작한 상태다.

백신 임상 시험은 통상 수천∼수만 명을 대상으로 3상까지 진행하기 때문에 일각에서는 러시아의 성급한 백신 개발 속도에 우려를 나타내고 있다.

린트마이어 대변인은 또 코로나19 기원 조사를 위해 중국에 파견된 선발대가 "역학 연구, 생물학 및 유전자 분석, 동물 보건 연구 등에 대한 업데이트된 정보를 받았다"고 말했다고 로이터 통신이 전했다.

그는 "선발대가 중국 측과 광범위한 논의를 했다"면서 코로나19가 처음 발생한 우한(武漢)의 바이러스학자들과 화상 토론도 진행했다고 말했다.

다만 그는 구체적인 논의 내용이나 이후 중국에 파견될 국제 전문가팀의 조사 일정, 이들의 국적 등은 밝히지 않았다고 로이터는 알렸다.

WHO는 코로나19의 기원 조사를 벌일 국제 전문가팀 파견에 앞서 사전 작업을 위해 지난달 전염병학자와 동물 보건 전문가 등 2명으로 구성된 선발대를 중국에 보냈다.

WHO는 코로나19 바이러스가 박쥐에서 유래했으며 동물과 인간의 종간(種間) 장벽을 뛰어넘게 한 중간 동물 숙주가 있었을 것으로 추정하고 있다.
