WHO "폭발참사 베이루트 내 의료시설 50% 기능 못 해"

(카이로=연합뉴스) 노재현 특파원 = 세계보건기구(WHO)는 12일(현지시간) 폭발 참사가 발생한 레바논 수도 베이루트의 의료시설 중 절반가량이 제대로 작동하지 않는 것으로 분석했다.

리처드 브레넌 WHO 지역응급국장은 이날 이집트 수도 카이로에서 열린 화상 기자회견을 통해 베이루트 내 병원 등 의료시설 55곳을 평가한 결과, 50%가 약간 넘는 시설이 기능하지 못하는 것으로 파악했다고 밝혔다고 AFP, 로이터통신 등이 전했다.

그는 레바논 당국과 동맹국들이 가능하면 빨리 베이루트 내 의료시설의 기능을 복구할 것을 촉구했다.

레바논 병원들은 그동안 예산과 장비 부족으로 정상 운영에 어려움을 겪었다.

신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 확진자와 폭발 사태 환자들을 치료하는 데 한계가 많다는 우려가 제기돼왔다.

최근 레바논 내 코로나19 확산세가 거세다.

레바논 보건부는 11일 전국에서 코로나19 누적 확진자가 7천121명으로 하루 사이 309명 늘었다고 밝혔다.

레바논에서 일일 신규 확진자 수가 300명을 넘기는 2월 21일 첫 감염자가 보고된 뒤 처음이다.

일일 신규 확진자는 6일 255명, 7일 279명, 8일 272명, 9일 294명, 10일 295명 등으로 늘었다.

레바논에서 코로나19로 인한 총 사망자는 87명이다.

최근 크리스티안 린트마이어 WHO 대변인은 베이루트 폭발사고로 코로나19 확산 방지를 위한 개인보호 장비와 의약품 등이 담긴 컨테이너 17대가 손실됐다고 말했다.

또 지난 4일 베이루트 항구의 대폭발로 최소 171명이 숨지고 6천여명이 다친 것으로 집계됐다.
