EU 집행위, 구글의 핏빗 인수에 대해 반독점 조사 시작

(베를린=연합뉴스) 이광빈 특파원 = 유럽연합(EU) 집행위원회는 구글의 스마트워치 업체 핏빗 인수 계획을 놓고 시장 독점 여부에 대해 '심층 조사'를 시작했다고 AFP 통신 등 현지 언론이 4일(현지시간) 보도했다.

마르그레테 베스타게르 EU 경쟁담당 집행위원은 "웨어러블 기기를 통해 수집된 데이터에 대한 구글의 통제가 시장 경쟁을 왜곡하지 않는지를 조사하는 게 목적"이라고 설명했다.

EU는 구글의 핏빗 인수로 소비자를 대상으로 한 맞춤형 광고 시장에서 가뜩이나 강력한 구글의 입지가 강화될 것을 우려하고 있다.

베스타게르 집행위원은 "유럽 시장에서 소비자들의 웨어러블 기기 사용이 향후 몇 년간 매우 증가할 것으로 보인다"면서 "웨어러블 기기를 통해 발생하는 데이터가 폭발적으로 증가하게 될 것"이라고 강조했다.

그는 "이런 데이터는 소비자의 생명과 건강 상태에 대한 핵심 정보를 제공한다"고 덧붙였다.

구글은 구글 광고에 핏빗 기기를 통해 얻은 데이터를 사용하지 않기로 공언했지만, 각국 반독점당국의 우려를 낳고 있다.

핏빗은 착용자의 심장 박동수나 수면 습관 등을 추적할 수 있는 스마트워치와 피트니스용 손목밴드 등을 제조한다.
