EU 24개국, '노르트스트림2' 제재 압박한 미국에 우려 전달

(베를린=연합뉴스) 이광빈 특파원 = 유럽연합(EU) 회원국 27개국 가운데 24개국이 러시아와 독일을 잇는 천연가스관 사업인 '노르트 스트림2'에 대한 미국의 제재 압박과 관련, 미국에 우려를 전달했다고 블룸버그 통신이 14일(현지시간) 보도했다.

EU 회원국들은 지난 12일 화상회의를 통해 '노르트 스트림2'에 대한 미국의 제재 압박에 대해 논의했고 3개 국가를 제외한 나머지 국가들은 미국의 태도에 문제를 제기했다.

이런 입장은 미국 국무부에 비공개 서신으로 전달이 됐다.

EU의 대외정책을 총괄하는 호세프 보렐 외교·안보정책 고위대표는 지난달 17일 "유럽 기업과 이익에 대한 미국의 제재 사용 증가, 또는 제재 위협을 매우 우려한다"면서 '노르트 스트림2'에 대한 미국의 제재 움직임에 경고한 바 있다.

미국은 '노르트 스트림2'에 대해 러시아에 대한 유럽의 에너지 의존도를 높여 유럽 안보에 위협이 된다는 이유로 반대 입장을 보여왔다.

미국은 최근 압박 수위를 높여가고 있다.

마이크 폼페이오 미국 국무장관은 지난달 중순 '노르트 스트림2' 참여 기업에 대해 제재 가능성을 경고하며 사업 중단을 촉구했다.

테드 크루즈 등 공화당 소속 상원의원 3명은 '노르트 스트림2' 사업을 위해 러시아 측 선박들이 정박해 작업 중인 독일 북부 무르칸항의 운영사에 서한을 보내 러시아 선박에 대한 상품과 서비스 지원이 제재대상이라고 중단을 요구했다.

이에 독일 정부는 강하게 반발하고 나섰고, 하이코 마스 독일 외무장관은 최근 러시아와의 관계가 악화한 상황에서도 지난 11일 모스크바를 방문해 러시아와 함께 미국의 제재 움직임을 비판했다.
