뉴욕증시, 고용지표 호조에도 미·중 긴장 우려 하락 출발

(뉴욕=연합뉴스) 오진우 연합인포맥스 특파원 = 뉴욕증시에서 주요 지수는 7일 예상보다 양호한 미국 고용지표에도 미·중 갈등이 심화한 데 따라 하락세로 출발했다.

오전 9시 43분(미 동부 시각) 현재 뉴욕증권거래소(NYSE)에서 다우존스 30 산업평균지수는 전장보다 98.29포인트(0.36%) 하락한 27,288.69에 거래됐다.

스탠더드앤드푸어스(S&P) 500 지수는 전장보다 7.52포인트(0.22%) 내린 3,341.64에, 기술주 중심의 나스닥 지수는 25.92포인트(0.23%) 하락한 11,082.15에 거래됐다.

시장은 고용지표와 미·중 긴장, 부양책 협상 상황 등을 주시했다.

미국의 고용지표가 양호했던 점은 시장에 지지력을 제공했다.

노동부는 7월 실업률이 전월 11.1%에서 10.2%로 하락했다고 발표했다. 월스트리트저널이 집계한 전문가들의 예상 10.6%보다 낮았다.

비농업부문 고용은 176만3천 명 증가했다. 시장 예상 148만2천명 증가보다 많았다.

신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 재확산으로 고용지표가 다시 나빠졌을 수 있다는 우려가 있었지만, 예상보다 나은 지표로 불안감이 경감됐다.

주요 주가지수 선물도 고용지표 발표 이후 낙폭을 줄이며 반등하는 흐름을 보였다.

하지만 미국과 중국의 긴장이 한층 고조된 만큼 주요 지수가 하락세에서 벗어나지는 못했다.

도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령은 전일 틱톡 모회사 바이트댄스, 위챗 모회사 텐센트와의 모든 거래를 금지하는 행정명령 2건에 서명했다. 시한은 앞으로 45일로 미국 관할권 내 개인 또는 기업에 모두 적용된다.

중국은 즉각 반발했다.

중국 외교부는 "중국은 자국 기업의 정당한 합법적 권익을 확고히 지킬 것"이라면서 미국의 이런 행위들이 "결국 자업자득의 결과를 가져올 것"이라고 비판했다.

바이트댄스는 트럼프 대통령의 행정명령에 대해 소송을 제기할 수 있다고 밝혔다.

중국 외교정책을 총괄하는 양제츠 중국공산당 외교담당 정치국원은 미국이 1단계 무역합의 이행을 위한 우호적인 여건 조성에 협력해야 한다는 발언을 내놨다.

미국의 중국 기업 때리기가 1단계 무역합의 이행에 걸림돌이 될 수도 있다는 경고를 보낸 것으로 풀이되면서 우려를 키웠다.

그는 다만 "소통의 문은 언제나 완전히 열려있다"면서 대화를 통한 긴장 완화를 촉구했다.

여기에 월스트리트저널 등 주요 외신에 따르면 미국 증권거래위원회(SEC)와 재무부는 미국 증시에 상장됐지만, 회계감사 자료를 미국 규제 당국에 공개하지 않는 중국 기업의 상장을 폐지해야 한다는 의견을 트럼프 대통령에게 전달했다.

이 권고가 시행되면 미국 증시에 상장된 중국 기업들은 퇴출당하지 않으려면 2022년 1월까지 회계감사 자료를 미국 규제 당국에 제공해야 한다.

이 밖에 트럼프 대통령은 전일 캐나다산 알루미늄에 10% 관세를 다시 부과한다고 밝혔다. 캐나다는 보복 대응을 예고했다.

미·중 관계는 물론 글로벌 무역 관련 긴장이 전방위적으로 커지고 있는 셈이다.

미국의 신규 부양책을 둘러싼 정부와 야당의 대립이 지속하는 점도 부담이다.

백악관은 민주당이 이번 주까지 합의하지 않으면 협상을 중단하고 대통령의 행정명령 등으로 독자적으로 대응하겠다는 입장을 밝혔던 바 있다.

양측은 전일 협상에서도 돌파구를 찾지 못했으며, 합의가 나오길 원하지만, 이견이 여전히 크다는 입장만 반복했다.

경제 상황을 고려하면 어떻게든 합의가 될 것이란 기대가 있었지만, 협상이 지속해서 지연되면서 시장의 긴장감도 커지고 있다.

뉴욕 증시 전문가들은 고용 상황이 우려보다는 양호하지만, 부양책 협상 난항 등에 따른 위험은 여전하다고 진단했다.

프린스펄 글로벌 인베스터의 시마 샤 수석 전략가는 "이번 고용 수치가 경제 상황이 크게 개선됐다는 것을 의미하지는 않으며, 고용시장이 코로나19 증가로 인한 새로운 약세 없이 단지 현상 유지 상태에 있다는 점만 시사한다"고 말했다.

그는 "의회가 아직 부양책에 대해 합의를 하지 못하고 있다"면서 "정책의 실패가 최근 경제에 서서히 나타난 잠정적인 회복세를 저해할 수 있다는 점은 위험요인"이라고 지적했다.

유럽 주요국 증시는 혼조세다. 범유럽지수인 Stoxx 600지수는 0.22% 올랐다.

국제유가는 하락했다. 9월물 서부텍사스산 원유(WTI) 가격은 전 거래일보다 1.19% 내린 41.45달러에, 브렌트유는 1.22% 하락한 44.54달러에 움직였다.
