(서울=연합뉴스) 송진원 기자 = 이른바 '검언유착 의혹'을 불러일으킨 이동재(35) 전 채널A 기자가 5일 재판에 넘겨진다.

서울중앙지검 형사1부(정진웅 부장검사)는 강요미수 혐의로 구속된 이 전 기자를 이날 기소한다. 이 전 기자는 지난달 17일 구속돼 20일의 구속기한이 이날 만료된다.

이 전 기자는 신라젠의 대주주였던 이철(55·수감 중) 전 밸류인베스트코리아(VIK) 대표에게서 유시민 노무현재단 이사장의 비리를 캐내려다 그를 협박한 혐의를 받는다. 유 이사장은 2014년 이 전 대표의 회사 직원들을 상대로 강연하고, 이듬해 신라젠 관련 행사에서 축사를 한 사실이 알려지며 구설에 올랐다.

이 전 기자는 지난 2∼3월 구치소에 있는 이 전 대표에게 5차례 편지를 보냈다. 신라젠 의혹과 관련해 이 전 대표가 다시 수사와 재판을 받을 수 있으니 유 이사장의 비리를 제보하고 참작을 받으라는 게 요지다. 이 과정에서 이 전 기자는 "(검찰이) 가족의 재산까지, 먼지 하나까지 탈탈 털어서 모두 빼앗을 가능성이 높다"는 식으로 언급했다.

이 전 대표는 검찰 조사에서 이 전 기자의 편지를 받고 공포심을 느꼈다는 취지로 진술했다. 검찰은 편지 내용과 이 전 대표의 진술을 토대로 이 전 기자에게 강요미수 혐의를 적용해 법원에서 구속 영장을 받았다.

검찰은 이 전 기자가 한동훈(47·사법연수원 27기) 검사장과 협박성 취재를 공모했다고 의심하고 수사를 벌였으나 현재까지 명확한 증거는 찾지 못한 것으로 알려졌다. 한 검사장은 앞서 검찰 소환에 한 차례 응했지만 조서 열람도 마치지 못한 것으로 전해졌다. 이에 따라 이 전 기자만 재판에 넘기는 것 아니냐는 관측이 제기된다.

일각에서는 검찰이 한 검사장을 공범으로 함께 기소할 수 있다는 예측도 나온다. 압수수색 과정에서 한 검사장과 '육탄전'까지 벌인 이후 수사 자체가 답보상태를 벗어나지 못하고 있으니 이 전 기자와의 대화 녹취록 등을 토대로 일단 기소한 후 재판 과정에서 혐의 입증에 나설 수 있다는 관측이다.
