중국서 음식물쓰레기 줄이려 체중계 갖다놓은 식당 결국 사과

(서울=연합뉴스) 홍준석 기자 = 음식물 쓰레기 줄이기 캠페인으로 떠들썩한 중국에서 한 식당이 입구에 체중계를 설치해놓고 몸무게에 따라 음식을 주문하도록 했다가 결국 사과했다.

15일(현지시간) BBC 방송 등에 따르면 중국 중부의 후난(湖南)성 창사(長沙)에 있는 한 고깃집은 손님들이 몸무게를 잴 수 있도록 식당 입구에 체중계 두 개를 마주 보게 배치해뒀다.

이 식당은 체중계 옆에 성별과 몸무게에 따른 권장 칼로리 섭취량과 추천메뉴를 쓴 안내판도 세워뒀다.

안내판에는 "근검절약하고 음식을 남기지 말자(勤儉節約 提倡光盤)"는 문구도 있었다.

이 모습을 본 중국 누리꾼들은 분노했고 웨이보(微博·중국판 트위터)에 올라온 이 식당에 대한 글은 300만회 이상의 조회 수를 기록했다.

이에 식당은 사과문을 인터넷에 올려 "음식물 쓰레기 줄이기 캠페인을 잘못 해석했다"면서 "깊게 사죄드린다"고 말했다.

식당은 "원래 의도는 음식물 쓰레기를 줄이고 음식을 건강하게 시키도록 하려 했던 것"이었다면서 "손님들에게 몸무게를 재도록 강제하지 않았다"고 덧붙였다.

한편 시진핑(習近平) 중국 국가주석은 지난 11일 "음식 낭비 현상에 가슴이 아프다"면서 "이를 단호히 막아야 한다"고 지시를 내린 것으로 알려졌다.

이에 우한(武漢) 등 일부 지역에서는 'N-1 운동'을 시작했다. 손님 N명이 오면 음식을 N-1명분 이하만 시키자는 것이다.

시진핑 주석의 지시는 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 확산과 홍수 피해, 미중 갈등 등의 여파로 돼지고기와 옥수수 등 식자재 가격이 폭등하면서 중국인들의 불만이 커지고 있기 때문에 나온 것으로 풀이된다.
