(천안=연합뉴스) 오예진 기자 = 해양수산부는 최근 집중호우로 전국 연안에서 발생한 해양쓰레기를 신속하게 치우기 위해 오는 18∼23일을 집중 수거 주간으로 정해 청소 작업에 나선다고 14일 밝혔다.

해수부는 이 기간 각 지방해양수산청을 중심으로 지방자치단체, 지역주민 등과 함께 쓰레기를 치울 예정이다.

오염 방제 장비를 탑재한 청항선 22척, 어항관리선 12척을 포함해 수거장비도 모두 동원한다.

특히 이번에 해양쓰레기 피해가 큰 전남 목포에는 기존에 투입한 선박 7척과 별도로 계약한 민간 선박 5척을 추가로 동원할 계획이다.

해수부는 쓰레기 수거 작업의 효과를 높이기 위해 환경부와 협동 작업에 나선다. 해수부는 연안과 해역을, 환경부는 해양쓰레기의 주요 발원지인 하천과 댐 등의 쓰레기를 수거할 예정이다.

해수부는 이번 집중호우 기간에 전국에서 1만1천173t의 해양쓰레기가 발생해 13일 기준 3천925t이 수거됐다고 밝혔다.

해양쓰레기의 대부분은 하천 등을 통해 바다로 유입된 풀, 고사목 등 초목류이며 나머지는 생활 쓰레기인 것으로 파악됐다.
