(서울=연합뉴스) 수원지법은 정부의 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 방역 활동을 방해한 혐의를 받는 이만희(89) 신천지예수교 증거장막성전(신천지) 총회장에 대해 1일 새벽 구속영장을 발부했다.

(서울=연합뉴스) 양정우 기자 = 1일 이만희 총회장이 구속된 신천지예수교 증거장막성전(신천지)은 "법원의 구속영장 발부가 유죄판결을 의미하는 것은 아니며 향후 재판에서 진실을 분명하게 밝히도록 최선을 다할 것"이라고 밝혔다.

신천지는 이날 입장문에서 "총회장은 국내외 전 성도 주민번호와 주소, 연락처 등 방역당국의 과도한 개인정보 요구에 우려를 표했을 뿐 방역 방해를 목적으로 명단 누락 등을 지시한 적이 없다"면서 "방역의 중요성을 강조하며 성도들이 당국의 조치에 협조할 것을 독려했다"고 주장했다.

이어 "변호인단에서는 이같은 내용을 사실관계 범위 안에서 재판부에 충분히 소명했으나 구속영장이 발부되어 안타깝다"며 앞으로 재판에 충실히 임하겠다는 뜻을 밝혔다.

앞서 검찰은 이 총회장이 정부의 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 방역 활동을 방해한 혐의(감염병예방법 위반) 등으로 구속영장을 청구했다.

이 총회장은 경기 가평에 신천지 연수원인 평화의 궁전을 신축하는 과정에서 50억여원의 교회 자금을 가져다 쓰는 등 56억원을 횡령한 혐의도 받았다.
