"틱톡, 중국 정부와 정보 공유한다는 증거 없어"

(서울=연합뉴스) 안승섭 기자 = 무역전쟁에 이은 기술전쟁, 총영사관 상호 폐쇄 등으로 미국과 중국의 갈등이 최악으로 치닫는 가운데 주미 중국 대사가 양국의 협력으로 신냉전을 피하자는 유화론을 내놓았다.

5일 로이터통신에 따르면 추이톈카이(崔天凱) 주미 중국 대사는 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 확산으로 인해 가상 포럼 형식으로 열린 아스펜(ASPEN) 안보 포럼에서 이같이 발언했다.

아스펜 안보 포럼은 미국의 민간 싱크탱크인 아스펜이 매년 주최하는 포럼으로, 미국의 전·현직 안보 책임자들이 대거 참여한다.

추이 대사는 포럼에서 "신냉전은 누구의 이익에도 부합하지 않는다고 생각한다"며 "우리가 수많은 새로운 도전에 직면한 상황에서 역사(냉전)를 되풀이할 필요는 없지 않으냐"고 말했다.

그는 "세계의 두 경제 강대국은 상호 갈등보다는 협력을 추구해야 할 것"이라고 말해 미·중 관계의 복원을 바라는 듯한 모습을 보였다.

추이 대사는 중국이 1단계 무역합의 이행에도 최선을 다하고 있다고 강조했다.

그는 "미국과 중국 정부는 1단계 무역합의를 이행하고 있다"며 "양측 경제팀은 다양한 수준에서 접촉을 이어가고 있으며, 진전을 이루고 있다"고 밝혔다.

다만 추이 대사는 남중국해나 중국 모바일 동영상 공유앱 '틱톡'(TikTok) 문제 등 미국과 중국이 첨예하게 대립하는 사안에서는 중국의 기존 입장을 되풀이했다.

추이 대사는 중국 정부가 남중국해 문제에 대해 '위협 전술'을 쓰고 있다는 미국 정부의 주장을 반박하면서 "남중국해에서 미국의 증강된 군사 활동이 잠재적인 대립의 위험을 키우고 있다"고 주장했다.

그는 틱톡을 통해 미국인의 개인정보가 유출돼 국가안보에 해를 끼칠 수 있다는 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령의 주장에 대해서도 "틱톡이 중국 정부와 정보를 공유한다는 아무런 증거가 없다"고 반박했다.
