'사고 정리학' 저자 日 영문학자 도야마 교수 별세

(도쿄=연합뉴스) 박세진 특파원 = '사고(思考) 정리학'의 저자로 유명한 일본인 영문학자이자 언어학자인 도야마 시게히코(外山滋比古) 오차노미즈(お茶の水)여대 명예교수가 96세를 일기로 별세했다.

6일 교도통신에 따르면 도야마 교수는 담관암으로 입원 치료를 받던 도쿄의 한 병원에서 지난달 30일 사망했다.

1923년 아이치(愛知)현에서 태어난 고인은 도쿄문리과대(현 쓰쿠바대)에서 영문학을 공부한 뒤 오차노미즈여대 등에서 교편을 잡고 평론가와 수필가로 활동하면서 독서 방식이 음독에서 묵독으로 변화하는 과정을 고찰한 '근대독자론' 등 많은 저서를 남겼다.

그중에 1986년 문고판으로 처음 펴낸 '사고 정리학'은 젊은 층을 중심으로 필독서로 인기를 끌어 지금까지 누계로 전 세계에서 250만부 넘게 팔린 스테디셀러가 됐다.

고인은 일본 방송 용어 순화에 기여한 공로로 1995년 NHK 방송문화상을 받기도 했다.

NHK는 일본에서 '지식의 거인'으로 불리던 고인은 90세가 넘어서도 정력적으로 집필 활동을 계속했지만 올해 들어 건강이 악화해 입원과 퇴원을 반복해 왔다고 전했다.
