당국, 청장년층에 "가족·주변인 생각해서라도 방역수칙 지켜야"

(서울=연합뉴스) 김유아 기자 = 최근 수도권을 중심으로 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)이 급속도로 확산 중인 가운데 방역당국이 15일 청·장년층을 향해 철저한 방역수칙 준수를 당부했다.

젊은 확진자일수록 코로나19에 감염되더라도 가볍게 앓고 지나가거나 아무 증상 없이 회복될 수도 있지만, 만약 고령의 가족이나 지인에게 코로나19를 전파할 경우 상황에 따라서는 치명적인 결과가 초래될 수도 있기 때문이다.

권준욱 중앙방역대책본부(방대본) 부본부장은 이날 충북 오송 질병관리본부에서 열린 브리핑에서 "지금이 코로나19 위기라는 말은 안 하겠다. 지금은 말보다는 행동이 필요한 때"라며 운을 뗐다.

권 부본부장은 이어 "경증 감염이 많은 청·장년층을 중심으로 '감염되더라도 별일 없을 것'이라 생각하는 사람이 있다면 이런 말씀을 드리고 싶다"며 사랑하는 가족과 주변인들을 생각해달라고 강조했다.

그는 "본인이 경증이라고 하더라도 거리두기를 제대로 하지 않으면 결국 사랑하는 부모님, 할아버지, 할머니 그리고 주변의 만성질환을 앓는 분들은 생명까지 위협받을 수 있다"고 우려했다.

그러면서 "거리두기를 지키고 마스크를 항상 착용하는 등 방역수칙을 준수하는 것만이 소중한 생명을 지키고 사회 시스템을 유지하는 유일한 방법"이라고 덧붙였다.

권 부본부장의 이 같은 언급은 최근 사회 활동이 왕성한 젊은층 환자가 늘어나고 있는 데다 이들이 고령층에 비해 상대적으로 무증상 또는 경증인 경우가 많아 자칫 '조용한 전파' 고리 역할을 하면서 감염 확산의 주요 요인이 될 수 있다는 우려에서 나온 것이다.

이날 0시 기준 신규확진자 166명 중 20대는 32명(19%), 30대는 20명(12%)으로 집계돼 20∼30대 확진자 비중이 3분의 1에 육박했다.
