(이스탄불=연합뉴스) 김승욱 특파원 = '유럽의 마지막 독재자'로 불리는 알렉산드르 루카셴코 벨라루스 대통령이 수십 만명이 몰린 퇴진 시위에 권력 일부를 나눌 수 있다는 의사를 밝혔다.

벨라루스 국영 벨타 통신에 따르면 루카셴코 대통령은 17일(현지시간) 자신의 퇴진을 요구하며 파업에 들어간 수도 민스크의 국영 MZKT 트럭 공장 노동자들을 만난 자리에서 이같이 말했다.

루카셴코 대통령은 "권력을 공유할 용의가 있고, 이를 위해 헌법을 개정할 수 있다"면서도 "시위대의 압력에 밀려 그렇게 하지는 않을 것"이라고 말했다.

그러면서 "이미 권력 재분배를 위한 헌법 개정 가능성을 검토하는 작업이 진행 중"이라고 전했다.

이어 "내가 죽기 전까지는 야당이 원하는 새 대통령 선거는 없을 것"이라고 덧붙였다.

그러나 지난 9일 치러진 대선 결과에 불복해 파업에 들어간 노동자들은 루카셴코 대통령의 연설에 야유를 보냈고, 루카셴코 대통령은 서둘러 연설을 마무리해야 했다.

반면, 이번 대선에서 루카셴코와 대결한 야권 후보 스베틀라나 티하놉스카야는 "국가 지도자가 될 준비가 됐다"고 밝혔다.

티하놉스카야는 이날 공개한 비디오 파일을 통해 "나는 정치인이 되고 싶지 않았지만, 운명은 나에게 독단적인 통치와 불의에 대항하는 전선에 서게 했다"고 말했다.

이어 "나는 국가 지도자로서 행동하고 책임을 떠맡을 준비가 됐다"고 덧붙였다.

티하놉스카야는 대선 출마를 준비하다 당국에 체포된 반체제 유명 블로거 세르게이 티하놉스키의 부인이다.

티하놉스키는 사회질서 교란 혐의로 지난 5월 말 체포돼 수감됐으며, 티하놉스카야는 남편을 대신해 출사표를 던졌다.

벨라루스의 대선 불복 시위는 지난 9일 선거에서 1994년부터 철권통치로 장기집권을 지속해오고 있는 루카셴코 대통령이 80% 이상의 압도적 득표율로 6기 집권에 성공했다는 개표 결과가 알려진 뒤부터 날마다 계속되고 있다.

전날에는 야권 지지자 20만명 이상이 수도 민스크 시내 북쪽 승리자 대로에 있는 '영웅도시' 오벨리스크 앞에 모여 루카셴코 퇴진 시위를 벌였으며, 이는 1994년 루카셴코 대통령 집권 이후 최대 규모로 알려졌다.
