영화 '페임'·'에비타' 등 연출한 앨런 파커 감독 별세

(런던=연합뉴스) 박대한 특파원 = 영화 '미드나이트 익스프레스', '페임', '에비타' 등을 연출한 영국의 영화감독 앨런 파커가 31일(현지시간) 별세했다고 BBC 방송, AFP 통신이 보도했다. 향년 76세.

그의 가족은 파커 감독이 오랜 질병 끝에 이날 숨을 거뒀다고 전했다.

1944년 런던에서 태어난 파커 감독은 광고 업계 카피라이터로 경력을 시작했다. 이후 광고 연출 등을 거쳐 1974년 TV 영화 '피난민들'(The Evacuees)로 영국 아카데미 감독상을 수상하면서 이름을 알렸다.

그는 영국 아카데미상 7개를 받았으며, 2013년에는 평생 공로를 인정받아 협회상(The Academy Fellowship)을 수상했다.

1978년 '미드나이트 익스프레스'로 아카데미상 2개 부문을 수상했으나 감독상 수상에는 실패했다.

1995년 대영제국 3등급 사령관(CBE) 훈장을, 2002년에 기사 작위를 받았다.

스타를 꿈꾸는 젊은이들의 이야기를 그린 '페임'과 '에비타', '핑크 플로이드의 벽' 등 음악영화를 만들었고, 1964년 백인 우월주의 단체인 큐클럭스클랜(KKK)이 흑인 인권운동가 3명을 구타·살해하고 암매장한 사건을 다룬 '미시시피 버닝'을 연출하기도 했다.

2003년 케빈 스페이시와 케이트 윈즐릿이 출연한 영화 '데이비드 게일'이 마지막 연출작이다.

파커 감독은 은퇴 후 미술 작품 활동에 열중한 것으로 전해졌다.
