(경주=연합뉴스) 손대성 기자 = 본격 휴가철을 맞아 경북 경주엑스포공원을 찾는 관광객이 늘었다.

3일 재단법인 문화엑스포에 따르면 주말과 휴일인 지난 1∼2일 경주엑스포공원을 찾은 관광객은 4천930명이다.

이 같은 방문객 수는 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 확산 이전 평소 주말에 평균 약 3천명이 방문한 것보다도 오히려 늘어난 셈이다.

토요일인 지난 1일 낮 최고기온 33도에 달한 무더위에도 2천640명이 공원을 찾아 올해 하루 최다 입장 기록을 세웠다.

문화엑스포는 최근 대구·경북에서 코로나19 확산이 주춤한 가운데 여유롭고 쾌적한 환경을 피서지로 선호하는 추세에 따른 것으로 본다.

전체 면적 56만㎡로 축구장 80개 규모인 경주엑스포공원은 여유 있게 휴식과 체험을 할 수 있다.

문화엑스포는 코로나19 확산을 막기 위해 전문 방역업체를 통해 정기소독을 하고 열화상 감지기를 설치해 체온을 확인하며 마스크 착용을 점검하고 있다.

류희림 문화엑스포 사무총장은 "이번 휴가철에는 자연과 체험이 함께하는 경주엑스포공원에서 치유하는 시간을 보내기를 바란다"고 말했다.
