(서울=연합뉴스) 임화섭 기자 = 유동균 서울 마포구청장이 정부의 8·4 주택공급 대책에 포함된 상암동 일대 공공주택 6천200호 건립 계획에 반발하는 주민 의견을 수렴하기 위해 해 오던 천막 단식을 여드레째인 17일 중단했다고 마포구가 전했다.

마포구에 따르면 유 구청장은 지난 10일부터 구청사 정문 앞 광장에 천막으로 된 '현장 구청장실'을 마련하고 단식하며 지역 주민 수백 명의 의견을 들었다.

이번 단식 중단은 "(주민들이) 만나고 소통하며 구민과 함께하겠다는 구청장의 뜻을 잘 전달받았고 또한 지역주민 의견을 충분히 수렴했으리라 생각한다"며 단식 중단을 건의한 데 따른 것이라고 구는 전했다.

유 구청장은 이날 오후 단식을 중단하면서 "국토부, 서울시, 마포구, 지역 주민들이 참여하는 '4자 협의체'를 구성해 지역특성에 맞는 '상암동 지역 종합계획' 수립을 위해 충분한 논의를 거쳐 최적안을 마련할 것을 제안한다"는 내용의 성명을 발표했다.

유 구청장은 "상암동 공공주택 개발이 자칫 강남북 균형 발전에 역행하는 일이 되지 않도록 교통, 교육, 환경, 복지 인프라 등을 충분히 감안한 후, 마포구민을 포함해 서울시 서북부 주민들에게 새로운 기회가 될 수 있는 방향으로 계획이 수립되어야 한다"고 말했다.

그는 "지역 현실과 수요에 맞는 개발계획이 되도록 주민의 의견을 수렴하고 최적의 방안을 마련해 정부에 적극 건의하겠다"고 덧붙였다.
