제네시스, 4년 만에 벤츠 꺾었다…국내 고급차 시장 1위

G80·GV80 흥행 성공…하반기 GV70·G70 출시 예정

(서울=연합뉴스) 최윤정 기자 = 제네시스가 G80과 GV80 인기에 힘입어 4년 만에 벤츠를 꺾고 국내 고급차 판매 1위를 유지하고 있다.

17일 업계에 따르면 제네시스는 올해 1∼7월 국내 판매량이 6만5대로 메르세데스-벤츠(4만1천583대)와 BMW(2만9천246대)를 훌쩍 앞섰다.

제네시스 판매량은 작년 동기대비 65% 뛰었는데 벤츠는 3% 증가하는 데 그쳤다. BMW는 35% 증가했다.

지금 추세라면 제네시스가 연간 기준으로도 벤츠와 BMW를 누를 것으로 보인다.

제네시스는 브랜드 출범 다음 해인 2016년 6만6천278대가 팔리며 벤츠(5만6천343대), BMW(4만8천459대)를 넘었다.

G80 부분변경모델과 EQ900(현재 G90)이 각각 4만2천950대, 2만3천328대 팔렸다.

그러나 이후 3년간은 수입차 업체인 벤츠에 안방을 내줬다. 2017년과 2018년에는 BMW에도 밀렸다.

그나마 2019년에는 5만6천801대가 팔리며 BMW(4만4천191대)를 누르고 2위로 복귀했다.

신차급으로 달라진 G90(EQ900)이 1만7천542대 팔리며 실적 개선을 주도했고 G70도 1만6천975대 판매됐다. 그럼에도 불구하고 매해 신기록을 세운 벤츠(7만8천133대)에는 크게 뒤처졌다.

전세가 역전된 것은 올해 1월 제네시스 첫 스포츠유틸리티차(SUV)인 GV80이 출시되면서다. 3월 말에는 3세대 G80도 나왔다.

GV80은 7월까지 2만16대 판매되며 올해 목표(2만4천대)에 바짝 다가섰고, G80은 2만8천993대 팔리며 작년 연간 판매량(2만2천284대)을 넘었다.

두 모델 모두 주문이 밀릴 정도로 흥행에 성공했다. 제네시스는 이달 판매기록까지 치면 2016년 연간 기록까지 넘어서며 신기록을 쓸 것으로 보인다.

제네시스는 하반기에는 젊은 고객층에 맞는 신차를 준비하고 있다. 두번째 SUV이자 GV80보다 한 체급 작은 GV70이 나온다. G70 부분변경 모델도 나온다.

벤츠도 대표 인기 모델인 E클래스 부분변경차를 출시할 계획이다. 다만 벤츠는 디미트리스 실라키스 전 사장이 떠나고 직무대행 체제여서 공격적인 마케팅을 펼치지 못할 수도 있다.

벤츠는 임기 시작 예정이던 뵨 하우버 사장의 인사가 5일 갑자기 취소되고 김지섭 고객서비스 총괄 부문장이 대행을 맡게 됐다.
