AI가 S펜 궤적 예상해 지연시간 없애…"뉴노멀 세웠다"

삼성전자[005930] 디자이너와 엔지니어들이 5일(한국시간) '삼성 갤럭시 언팩 2020'에서 갤럭시 노트 20에 담긴 비전과 기술력을 소개했다.

무선사업부 디자인전략그룹 김홍민 상무는 이번 갤럭시 시리즈의 디자인 방향성과 메인 색상으로 정한 미스틱 브론즈에 관해 설명했다.

김 상무는 갤럭시 노트 20의 메인 콘셉트를 '지속 가능한 프리미엄'(sustainable premium)이라며 "오래가는 우아함(long-lasting elegance)이다. 트렌디하거나 잠깐 스쳐 가는 것이 아니다"라고 설명했다.

그는 "완벽한 품질을 위해 4, 5년간 연구했다"며 "오랜 기간 지속하는 프리미엄 지향, 패션과 유행을 초월한 색을 염두에 두고 미스틱 브론즈를 선택했다"고 밝혔다.

갤럭시 노트20 일반 모델과 울트라는 강화 폴리카보네이트와 유리 등 각각 다른 소재를 사용했으나 미스틱 브론즈가 잘 드러나도록 마감해 브랜드의 통일성을 살렸다.

김 상무는 "디자이너는 언제나 관찰하고, 경청하고, 사회에서 일어나는 일에 적응해야 한다"며 "왜냐하면 디자이너는 트렌드 추종자(trend follower)가 아니라 컬쳐 크리에이터(culture creator)라고 믿기 때문"이라고 강조했다.

무선사업부 개발실 정혜순 상무와 무선사업부 디스플레이그룹 강병훈 프로는 한층 업그레이드된 S펜의 기술력을 선보였다.

행사 영상에서는 대화면 패블릿을 표방한 노트 시리즈의 역사와 함께 발전해온 S펜의 다양한 기능이 연이어 나왔다.

S펜은 2011년 갤럭시 노트 출시를 시작으로 노트3의 에어 커맨드, 노트4의 스마트 셀렉트, 노트5의 꺼진 화면 메모, 노트8의 라이브 메시지 등 기능을 꾸준히 추가해왔다.

특히 이번 시리즈에서는 사용자가 실제 손으로 글씨를 쓰는 것처럼 느낄 수 있게 미세한 지연시간도 없앴다.

강병훈 프로는 "우리의 목표는 사용자가 더 좋은 펜 사용 경험을 느낄 수 있게 하는 것"이라며 "지연을 없애기 위해 인공지능(AI) 기반 기술을 적용했다"고 설명했다.

갤럭시 노트 20의 S펜은 AI 기반 포인트 프리딕션(point prediction) 기술로 AI가 사용자의 펜이 움직이는 궤적을 파악하고 다음 지점을 예상해 펜과 스마트폰의 반응 시간을 최소한으로 줄였다.

여기에 1초에 120개 화면을 보여주는 120㎐ 디스플레이로 더욱더 부드러운 필기를 경험할 수 있다.

정혜순 상무는 "이번 갤럭시 노트와 S펜이 '뉴노멀'(new normal)을 세웠다"고 말했다.
