(모스크바=연합뉴스) 유철종 특파원 = 민간 우주관광객 2명이 내년 말에 국제우주정거장(ISS)으로 비행할 계획이라고 러시아 연방우주공사(로스코스모스)가 2일(현지시간) 밝혔다.

로스코스모스 공보실은 이날 타스 통신에 "우주관광을 전문으로 하는 (미국) '스페이스 어드벤처스'(Space Adventures)사와의 계약에 따라 2명의 관광객이 탄 우주선 발사가 내년 말에 이루어질 예정"이라고 소개했다.

우주관광객들의 신원은 내년 초에 공개될 예정이라고 로스코스모스는 전했다.

우주공사는 다른 여러 미국 기업들과도 우주관광객을 ISS로 보내기 위한 협상을 진행하고 있다고 덧붙였다.

로스코스모스와 스페이스어드벤처스는 지난해 2월 2명의 우주인을 ISS로 보내는 계약을 체결했다.

러시아 측은 관광객들이 낸 우주여행 경비로 유인우주선 '소유스 MS'와 우주발사체 '소유스-2'를 제작하고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.

민간인의 우주관광은 지난 2001년 최초로 성사된 뒤 2009년까지 진행되다가 2011년 미국 우주왕복선 퇴역으로 ISS로 우주인들을 운송하는 러시아 소유스 우주선의 부담이 늘어나면서 중단됐다.

러시아는 지금까지 모두 7명의 민간인 우주관광객들을 ISS로 올려보냈으며 그들로부터 1인당 최소 2천만 달러(약 230억원)의 비용을 받았다.

최초의 우주관광객은 2001년 ISS로 비행한 미국인 억만장자 기업가 데니스 티토였으며, 7번째 관광객은 세계적인 서커스 그룹 '태양의 서커스'(Cirque Du Soleil)를 창설한 캐나다 출신 억만장자 기 랄리베르테였다.

기 랄리베르테를 이어 영국의 세계적 여성 팝페라 가수 사라 브라이트만이 지난 2015년 8번째로 우주관광에 나설 예정이었으나 훈련 마지막 단계에서 포기했다.
