(서울=연합뉴스) 신선미 기자 = 방역당국은 수도권에서 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 확진자 수가 폭발적으로 증가하는 데 이어 이런 확산세가 전국으로 급속하게 번지고 있다면서 우려를 나타냈다.

정은경 중앙방역대책본부(방대본) 본부장은 17일 충북 오송 질병관리본부에서 열린 정례 브리핑에서 "발생지역이 서울·경기뿐 아니라 전국으로 확산하고 있다"면서 "코로나19 유행이 무서운 속도로 전국적으로 확산하고 있다"고 밝혔다.

코로나19 일일 신규 확진자 수는 나흘 연속 세 자릿수를 기록했다. 특히 교회, 카페, 식당, 시장, 학교 등 다중이용시설을 중심으로 집단감염이 동시다발적으로 발생하면서 코로나19 감염은 지역사회로 점차 확산하고 있다.

이런 상황은 최근 통계에도 잘 나타난다. 4일부터 이날까지 최근 2주간 감염 경로를 보면 신규 확진자 1천126명 중 733명(65.1%)이 국내 집단발병으로 인해 확진 판정을 받았다. 여기에 조사가 진행 중인 '깜깜이 환자'도 131명(11.6%)이나 된다.

정 본부장은 이런 상황에 대해 "최근 특히 집단발병 사례가 증가하고 있는 종교시설과 관련해 역학조사를 실시한 결과, 종교활동 모임을 통해 발생한 감염이 비수도권 지역을 포함해 콜센터, 어린이집, 요양병원 등 다양한 장소로 (확산하며) 2차 감염이 연쇄적으로 이어지고 있어 'n차 전파'의 위험성도 높다"고 평가했다.

그는 이어 "지금 수도권에는 지금껏 진단되지 않았던 무증상·경증 감염자가 누적돼 있다"면서 "코로나 감염의 위험은 '고위험시설'에만 국한되지 않고 우리가 일상에서 매일 접하는 식당, 카페, 주점, 시장 등 어디서든, 누구라도 코로나 감염에 노출될 위험이 매우 커진 상황"이라고 우려했다.

아울러 정 본부장은 현 상황을 '대규모 유행의 초기단계'라고 규정하면서 "지금 바로 유행 상황을 통제하지 않으면 (확진자 수는) 기하급수적으로, 걷잡을 수 없이 증가해 의료시스템의 붕괴, 또 막대한 경제적인 피해로 이어질 수 있는 위기상황"이라고 말했다.

방역당국에 따르면 지난주부터 국내 코로나19 상황이 급변했다. 이달 초만 하더라도 해외 유입사례를 차단하는 것이 방역당국의 핵심 과제였으나, 이달 11일과 12일 각각 경기 용인시 우리제일교회와 서울 성북구 사랑제일교회에서 집단감염이 확인되면서 국내감염이 급속도로 확산하고 있다.

정 본부장은 이에 대해 "방역당국에서 가장 우려했던 상황"이라고 평가했다.

그러면서 "코로나19는 전파 속도가 워낙 빠르고 감염력이 굉장히 높기 때문에 한 번 감염원에 노출되면 대규모의 환자가 발생하는 데다, n차 전파로 이어질 경우 마치 둑이 무너지듯 방역이나 의료 대응에 한계가 올 수 있다"고 설명했다.

정 본부장은 코로나19 확산을 막을 수 있는 길이 '거리두기'라면서 방역 수칙을 준수해달라고 당부했다.

정 본부장은 재차 "언제, 어디서든, 누구에게든 감염이 될 수 있다는 게 참 무서운 말인 것 같다"면서 "본인도 인지하지 못하는 상황에서 전염을 시킬 수 있고 (감염 사실을) 본인도 인지할 수 없기 때문에 마스크 착용과 예방수칙을 지키는 것만이 최상의 예방법이라고 거듭 당부드린다"고 말했다.

그는 이어 "의료·방역적인 대응만 가지고 유행을 차단하는 데는 분명 한계가 있다"면서 "이런 유행을 차단하기 위해서는 사람 간의 접촉을 최소화해 전파를 줄이는 것이 최상의 대책"이라고 강조했다.
