필리핀 코로나19 신규확진 5천명 육박…의료붕괴 우려

(하노이=연합뉴스) 민영규 특파원 = 필리핀에서 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)이 수도권인 메트로 마닐라를 중심으로 급증하면서 의료붕괴 우려가 제기됐다.

1일 일간 필리핀스타 등 현지 언론에 따르면 필리핀 보건부는 이날 코로나19에 일일 최다인 4천963명이 새로 감염돼 누적 확진자가 9만8천232명으로 증가했다고 밝혔다.

이에 앞서 지난달 30일 신규 확진자가 3천954명으로 집계돼 일일 최다를 기록한 뒤 31일 4천63명으로 기록을 경신했다.

하루가 다르게 환자가 급증해 일일 신규 확진자가 5천명에 육박한 것이다.

특히 1일 신규 확진자의 절반 이상인 2천667명이 마닐라에서 나왔고, 마닐라 인근 3개 주(州)에서 1천명에 가까운 확진자가 쏟아졌다.

필리핀에서는 당국이 경제 회생을 이유로 마닐라 등 위험지역의 방역 수위를 준봉쇄령(MECQ)에서 일반적 사회적 격리(GCQ)로 완화한 지난 6월 1일을 전후해 코로나19 확산세가 커졌고, 7월부터 급증세를 보였다.

이 때문에 의료 시스템에 빨간불이 들어왔다.

보건 당국은 코로나19 환자 병상이 포화상태에 근접하고 있다면서 사회적 거리 두기 등 방역 수칙 준수를 당부했다.

인구 1천300만명가량이 사는 수도권인 메트로 마닐라에서는 다수 공·사립 병원의 코로나19 집중치료 병동이 이미 포화상태에 도달한 것으로 알려졌다.

그러나 로드리고 두테르테 대통령은 지난달 31일 마닐라에 대해 내려진 방역 수위를 오는 15일까지 GCQ로 유지하고 세부시의 방역 수위를 MECQ에서 GCQ로 완화한다고 밝혔다.

GCQ 지역에서는 주민들의 자택 격리가 풀리고, 대중교통도 제한적으로 운행한다. 또 대다수 사업장이 일부 또는 전부 가동하지만, 상당수 상업시설의 영업에는 시간과 수용 인원에 제약을 받는다.

그러자 현지 의료 단체들은 1일 두테르테 대통령 등에게 보낸 공개서한에서 의료 시스템 붕괴를 우려하면서 오는 15일까지 마닐라와 인근 지역에 대해 봉쇄령을 다시 내려달라고 촉구했다.
