'편백숲 10m 높이 거닐며 산림욕'…장성 축령산에 하늘숲길 조성

(장성=연합뉴스) 정회성 기자 = 전남 장성군 축령산 편백숲에 나무의 중간이나 3분의 2 정도 높이에서 산림욕을 즐길 수 있는 산책길이 만들어진다.

장성군은 올해 착공을 목표로 축령산 편백숲 일원에 '하늘숲길' 조성 사업을 추진한다고 6일 밝혔다.

하늘숲길은 축령산 치유의 숲에서 대덕화장실 앞 공터까지 약 900ｍ 거리를 편백숲 한복판을 가로지르며 이어진다.

구간에 따라 최고 10ｍ 높이에서 편백숲을 거닐 수 있다.

전망대와 쉼터 등을 함께 설치하고 계단 없이 완만한 경사도로 설계해 교통약자, 노인, 어린이도 안전하고 편하게 이용하도록 한다.

장성군은 올해 초부터 대상지 현황 조사를 마치고 전담반을 구성해 대전 장태산 자연휴양림의 스카이웨이 등 성공 사례를 참고했다.

주민 의견을 청취하고 자문위원회 등을 구성했다.

총사업비는 38억원 규모이며 10월 말 실시설계가 끝날 예정이다.

장성군은 하늘숲길 뿐만 아니라 편백숲을 활용한 축령산 개발을 2030년까지 산림청 사업과 연계해 시행한다.

축령산 편백숲은 1956년 춘원 임종국 선생이 홀로 나무를 심어 만들기 시작한 인공 조림지다.

약 157㏊ 면적에 수령 60년 안팎의 아름드리 편백 250여만 그루가 울창한 숲을 이룬다.

삼나무 등 상록수가 피톤치드와 음이온을 뿜어내는 전체 숲 규모는 1천150㏊에 달한다.
