(서울=연합뉴스) 하채림 기자 = 메트라이프, ABL생명, 동양생명, AIA생명에 이어 라이나생명까지 매각설이 전해지며 하반기 생명보험업계에 인수·합병(M&A) 큰 장이 서는 분위기다.

23일 업계에는 미국 시그나그룹의 한국 자회사 라이나생명 매각 추진설이 확산했다.

라이나생명은 지난해 수입 보험료(일반회계+특별회계) 기준으로 업계 13위, 총자산 기준 21위의 중위권 생보사다. 보험설계사 영업보다는 홈쇼핑이나 케이블TV 광고를 통한 전화 마케팅에 강점을 보인다.

라이나생명 관계자는 "매각 추진설은 사실이 아니다"고 부인했지만, 업계는 사실일 가능성에 무게를 싣는 분위기다.

생명보험업계는 저금리 기조 속에 건전성 기준 강화를 앞두고 비관적 사업 전망과 함께 외국계 생보사들의 M&A 설이 끊이지 않고 있다.

앞서 미국계 메트라이프, 중국계 ABL생명과 동양생명, 홍콩계 AIA생명을 두고 매각설이 나돌았다.

결정적으로 최근 미국계 푸르덴셜생명이 KB금융에 2조원이 넘는 가격에 팔리자 해외 모회사와 IB업계의 움직임이 빨라졌다는 게 보험업계의 분석이다.

푸르덴셜생명의 매각대금을 고려할 때 라이나생명은 3조원 이상을 받을 수 있다는 전망도 나온다.

라이나생명이 흑자 기업이라는 점도 M&A 대상으로서 매력적이다.

매수 후보자로는 생보사를 보유하지 않았거나 보강 필요성이 제기되는 우리금융이나 하나금융이 우선 거론된다.

우리금융은 푸르덴셜생명 인수전에 뛰어든 바 있다.

KDB생명 매각 협상에서 JC파트너스가 우선협상대상자가 되는 등 사모펀드들도 보험 회사 인수에 관심을 보인다.

이에 비해 상위권 생보사들은 대형 M&A보다는 지급여력(RBC) 개선 등 내실 다지기에 집중하는 기류가 지배적이다.

업계 관계자는 "비관적 사업 전망으로 고민하던 외국 대주주들에 푸르덴셜생명과 오렌지생명 매각이 자극제가 됐을 것"이라며 "새 회계기준인 국제회계기준(IFRS17) 도입이 가까워지며 M&A를 본격적으로 타진하는 외국계 보험사가 늘어날 것"이라고 전망했다.
