유선망에 네트워크 슬라이싱 적용

(서울=연합뉴스) 채새롬 기자 = LG유플러스[032640]는 5G 단독모드(SA) 상용화를 위해 이동통신 기지국 및 코어 장비에 이어 유선망 구간에서 활용 가능한 네트워크 슬라이싱 기술을 개발했다고 20일 밝혔다.

현재 상용화된 5G 비단독모드(NSA)는 LTE망을 공유해 단독모드보다 신호가 많이 지연되지만, SA 방식은 지연이 적어 통신속도가 올라간다.

SA 방식에서는 네트워크를 물리·가상네트워크로 각각 분리해 고객 상황에 맞춰 트래픽 품질을 보장하는 '네트워크 슬라이싱' 기술을 제공할 수 있게 된다.

네트워크 슬라이싱을 제공하기 위해서는 기지국이나 코어 장비 외에도 유선망 구간에서 실시간으로 5G망을 측정·분석해 서비스 및 장애 위험을 알려주고, 네트워크 변화 시 능동적으로 최단 거리 경로를 유지하는 기술이 필요하다.

LG유플러스가 이번에 적용한 기술은 양방향 능동 측정 프로토콜(TWAMP; Two Way Active Measurement Protocol)을 소프트웨어정의네트워크(SDN) 컨트롤러를 통해 분석하고 전송 품질을 관리하는 솔루션이다.

박송철 LG유플러스 NW기술운영그룹 전무는 "이 기술을 통해 유선망 구간에서도 최적의 전송 품질 제공해 고객에게 더욱 안정적인 고품질의 5G 서비스를 제공할 수 있게 됐다"고 말했다.

통신3사는 올해 하반기 5G SA 방식을 상용화할 예정이다.
