FIFA 부패 의혹 수사 중인 검찰의 수장과 부적절 회동 의혹

(제네바=연합뉴스) 임은진 특파원 = 스위스 검찰총장과 부적절한 회동을 한 의혹을 받는 잔니 인판티노 국제축구연맹(FIFA) 회장이 특별검사의 조사를 받게 됐다고 AFP, 로이터 통신이 보도했다.

스위스의 사법 감독 당국(AB-BA)은 이날 성명을 내고 슈테판 켈러 특검이 두 사람의 회동에 "비난받을 행동의 요소가 있다"고 판단, 인판티노 회장에 대한 수사 착수를 결정했다고 전했다.

아울러 미하엘 라우버 검찰총장에 대한 소송 절차를 시작할 수 있도록 그의 면책 특권을 해제해줄 것을 의회에 요청했다고 덧붙였다.

켈러 특검은 해당 의혹을 수사하기 위해 지난달 29일 임명됐다.

인판티노 회장과 라우버 총장은 2016∼2017년 세 차례에 걸쳐 부적절한 회동을 한 의혹을 받고 있다.

당시 스위스 검찰은 취리히에 본부가 있는 FIFA의 부패 혐의에 대해 수사하던 중이었다.

부패 혐의 가운데에는 러시아와 카타르가 각각 2018년, 2022년 월드컵 개최지로 선정된 것도 포함됐다.

이에 대해 두 사람은 정당한 회동이었으며 위법한 행동은 없었다고 반박했다.

그러나 의혹이 가라앉지 않자 라우버 총장은 다음 달 말 자리에서 물러나겠다며 지난 24일 사임 의사를 밝혔다.
