EU, 회원국에 코로나19·독감 동시 유행 대비 촉구

(브뤼셀=연합뉴스) 김정은 특파원 = 유럽연합(EU) 행정부 격인 집행위원회가 15일(현지시간) 회원국들에 올가을 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)과 독감이 동시에 유행할 위험에 대비할 것을 촉구했다.

로이터, AFP 통신에 따르면 EU 집행위는 올가을 코로나19 2차 대유행 가능성에 대비해 필요한 조치를 권고한 문서에서 "계절성 독감과 코로나19 동시 발생은 보건 체제에 상당한 부담을 줄 것"이라면서 이같이 밝혔다.

마르가리티스 시나스 집행위 부위원장은 이날 벨기에 브뤼셀에서 열린 기자회견에서 이 같은 상황을 피하기 위해 회원국 정부는 올해 독감 예방 백신을 더 많이 구매해야 하고, 접종하는 사람이 더 많아지도록 해야 한다고 말했다.

EU 집행위는 또한 평시에 유럽에서 독감 예방 접종 독려가 시작되는 10월까지 기다리지 말고 이번 달부터 예방 접종을 개시하라고 권고했다.

스텔라 키리아키데스 보건 담당 집행위원은 "많은 회원국에서 크고 작은 코로나19 지역 감염이 보고되고 있다"면서 "대비가 핵심이며, 특히 가을, 겨울 전에 해야 한다"라고 말했다.

EU 집행위는 코로나19 2차 대유행이 오기 전에 코로나19 진단 검사를 확대하고 효과적인 접촉자 추적 시스템을 구축할 것도 촉구했다.

EU 집행위는 27개 회원국 정부가 EU 전역에서 작동이 되는 접촉자 추적 애플리케이션을 사용하기를 바라고 있다. 하지만 현재 이 같은 앱을 가동한 회원국은 10개국에 불과하다고 로이터는 전했다.

EU 집행위의 이번 권고는 법적 구속력이 있는 것은 아니다.
