프랑스 외무 "위구르족 탄압 용인 안돼" 중국 강력규탄

하원 출석해 "광범위한 탄압 있어"…중국에 유엔의 조사 허용 촉구

(파리=연합뉴스) 김용래 특파원 = 프랑스가 중국의 소수민족인 위구르족에 대한 중국 측의 탄압을 규탄하고 유엔 조사관들의 접근을 허용하라고 촉구했다.

장이브 르드리앙 프랑스 외무장관은 21일(현지시간) 하원에 출석해 "우리가 접하거나 가진 정보에 따르면 위구르족을 강제수용하는 시설이 존재하고, 집단구금, 행방불명, 강제노역, 강제 산아제한, 위구르족의 문화유산 파괴, 집단 감시, 광범위한 탄압이 있다"면서 "프랑스는 국제인권단체들과 언론들이 전하는 증언을 면밀히 주시하고 있다"고 말했다.

이어 그는 "이런 일들을 프랑스는 용인할 수 없고 강력하게 규탄한다"고 말했다.

르드리앙 장관은 위구르족 인권탄압 의혹과 관련해 국제사회의 독립적인 조사가 이뤄져야 한다면서, 특히 유엔 인권최고대표사무소 조사관들의 현장 접근을 허용하라고 중국에 요구했다.

중국 신장(新疆) 위구르(웨이우얼) 자치구에서는 중국의 이슬람 소수민족인 위구르족이 100만명 이상 강제수용소에 억류되고, 중국 당국이 위구르족 여성을 상대로 강제 산아제한을 시행하는 것으로 알려졌다.

미국, 프랑스 등 서방의 주요 언론과 국제인권단체들은 중국이 위구르족 등 소수민족을 상대로 이슬람교를 부정하고 공산당에 충성하도록 세뇌하는 등 광범위하게 인권 탄압을 자행한다고 비판하고 있다.

도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령은 지난달 인권 탄압에 책임이 있는 중국의 당국자를 제재할 수 있도록 한 '2020년 위구르 인권정책법'에 서명하는 등 미국은 신장 위구르족 문제를 놓고 중국에 대한 공세를 강화하고 있다.
