피서철 음주운전 집중단속…동승자 방조 여부도 조사

(서울=연합뉴스) 김승욱 기자 = 경찰청은 피서철을 맞아 21일부터 9월 7일까지 음주운전을 집중 단속한다고 20일 밝혔다.

경찰은 음주운전 사망 사고가 가장 많이 발생하는 금요일을 포함해 주 1회 이상 피서지·관광지 주변 유흥가, 고속도로 톨게이트·휴게소 등에서 지방청별로 일제 단속을 벌이기로 했다.

경찰은 일제·상시 단속을 병행하면서 수시로 단속 장소를 변경할 계획이다.

음주운전 방조 행위에도 엄정히 대응한다.

음주운전 차량에 동승자가 있으면 방조 여부를 면밀히 조사해 혐의가 인정되면 입건하기로 했다. 고속도로 휴게소 주변에서 운전자들에게 술을 판매하는 행위도 단속 대상이다.

지방자치단체, 유관기관 등과 합동으로 음주운전 예방 홍보 활동도 벌인다.

올해 1∼6월 발생한 음주운전 사고는 8천279건으로 작년 같은 기간(7천469건)보다 10.8% 증가했다. 음주운전 사망자는 작년보다 4.6% 감소, 부상자는 12.5% 증가했다.
