피아트크라이슬러도 '배기가스 조작' 압수수색

(베를린=연합뉴스) 이광빈 특파원 = 독일과 스위스, 이탈리아 3개국 수사당국이 22일(현지시간) 자동차 기업 피아트크라이슬러(FCA)와 상용차 기업 이베코의 사무실을 차량 배기가스 조작 혐의로 압수수색했다.

AFP 통신 등 현지언론에 따르면 이날 압수수색은 3개국에 있는 피아트크라이슬러와 이베코의 사무실 10여 곳을 대상으로 이뤄졌다.

이들 기업은 배기가스 배출량을 측정하는 연구실에서는 배기가스 저감장치가 작동하도록 하고, 실제 주행시에는 연비 절감을 위해 저감장치가 제대로 작동하지 않도록 한 혐의를 받고 있다.

수사당국은 피아트크라이슬러 브랜드인 알파 로메오, 피아트, 지프 등과 이베코의 차량에 이런 수법이 사용된 것으로 보고 있다.

피아트크라이슬러와 이베코는 수사당국의 압수수색에 원활하게 협조했다고 밝혔다.

피아트크라이슬러는 프랑스 자동차 기업으로 푸조, 시트로엥 브랜드를 보유한 프랑스 PSA그룹과 지난해 10월 합병 발표를 했고, 최근 합병 후 사명을 '스텔랜티스'로 결정했다.

앞서 독일의 자동차기업 폴크스바겐은 2015년 전 세계적으로 판매한 1천100만 대의 차량에 대해 배기가스 저감장치를 조작한 것으로 드러나, 미국과 독일 등에서 막대한 과징금과 보상금을 지급했다.
