평소보다 날카로운 소리로 울며 잠자던 주인 깨워

고양이 덕에 화재 크게 확산하기 전 소방서 신고

(옥천=연합뉴스) 박재천 기자 = 충북 옥천군의 한 주민이 애완 고양이의 울음소리 덕에 보일러실 화재를 발견하고 더 큰 피해를 막았다.

20일 옥천소방서에 따르면 지난 19일 오후 11시 50분께 이원면의 한 주택 보일러실에서 불이 났다.

불은 보일러실 등을 태워 1천여만원의 재산 피해(소방서 추산)를 낸 뒤 28분 만에 진화됐다.

집주인 A(55)씨는 "방에서 자던 중 고양이 울음소리를 듣고 밖으로 나왔는데 보일러실에서 불이 나 119에 신고했다"고 말했다.

불이 일부 집으로 번져 주방 쪽에 피해를 주기는 했지만, 많이 타지는 않았다.

옥천소방서 관계자는 "반려묘가 날카로운 소리로 울고 평소보다 많이 날뛰니깐 주인이 잠에서 깬 것으로 안다"며 "결과적으로 고양이가 더 큰 피해를 막아준 셈"이라고 전했다.

경찰과 소방당국은 당일 오후 5시께 화목보일러 청소 후 가동했다는 A씨의 말을 토대로 정확한 화인을 조사 중이다.
