(서울=연합뉴스) 강애란 기자 = 온도와 습도가 높아 무더운 여름철에는 벌레, 곰팡이 등의 이물이 식품에 혼입될 가능성이 높아 취급·보관·관리에 각별히 주의해야 한다.

15일 식품의약품안전처에 따르면 최근 5년간 식품 이물 신고건수 총 2만1천544건을 분석한 결과 벌레가 6천852건으로 전체 31.8%를 차지해 가장 많았고, 곰팡이 2천452건(11.4%), 금속 1천863건(8.6%), 플라스틱 1천439건(6.7%) 순으로 나타났다.

특히 벌레는 7∼10월, 곰팡이 6∼10월에 신고 건수가 크게 증가했다.

식약처는 식품을 취급·보관하는 소비단계에서 관리가 소홀한 경우 벌레나 곰팡이가 혼입될 가능성이 높아질 수 있다며 일상생활에서 이물 혼입 방지에 주의를 기울여 달라고 당부했다.

벌레 중에서 화랑곡나방(쌀벌레)은 주로 어두운 곳을 좋아해 종이 박스 틈새 등에 서식하다 혼입될 수 있으므로, 제품을 보관할 때 가급적 어둡고 습한 장소는 피해야 한다. 택배 등을 통해 배달된 제품은 받는 즉시 포장상자를 제거한 뒤 보관해야 한다.

유충(애벌레)은 제품의 포장지를 뚫고 침입할 수 있으므로 시리얼과 같이 여러 번에 걸쳐 나누어 먹는 제품은 단단히 밀봉하거나 밀폐용기에 담아 바닥에서 떨어진 곳에 보관해야 한다.

벌레 혼입으로 신고가 많은 제품은 개봉과 밀봉을 반복하거나 단맛이 강한 제품이었다. 커피가 17.9%로 가장 많았고, 면류 15.2%, 시리얼 9.3%, 과자류 8.4% 등의 순이었다.

곰팡이는 주로 유통 중 용기·포장지 파손 등으로 외부 공기가 유입돼 발생하므로 식품을 살 때 포장지가 찢어지거나 구멍이 나지 않았는지, 찌그러진 부분은 없는지 잘 살펴야 한다.

냉동·냉동식품은 포장지에 표시된 방법에 따라 보관하지 않을 경우 곰팡이가 발생할 우려가 있으므로 보관 방법을 준수하고, 개봉 후 남은 식품은 공기에 접촉되지 않도록 밀봉해 냉장 또는 냉동 보관해야 한다.

곰팡이 발생 신고가 많은 제품은 빵·떡류(19.5%), 음료류(16.7%), 과자류(13.0%), 건포류(12.9%) 등이다.

식약처 관계자는 "이물을 발견한 소비자는 즉시 사진을 찍어 저장하고, 신고 제품과 해당 이물은 반드시 조사기관으로 인계해달라"고 당부했다.

식품안전 관련 불량식품으로 의심되는 제품은 부정불량식품 신고전화(☎1399) 또는 '내손안(安) 식품안전정보' 애플리케이션을 이용해 신고하면 된다.
