"수돗물 못 먹겠다"…유충 발견지역 편의점서 생수 판매 급증(종합)

전주 대비 최대 177% 판매 증가…2L 대용량이 더 잘 팔려

(서울=연합뉴스) 김보경 기자 = 인천 서구 지역을 중심으로 수돗물에서 유충이 발견됐다는 신고가 잇따르는 가운데 인천 지역 편의점의 생수 매출이 급증한 것으로 나타났다.

GS리테일이 운영하는 편의점 GS25는 수돗물 유충 발견 신고가 접수된 인천 서구와 부평, 계양, 강화 등에 있는 점포 50곳의 이달 15일 생수 판매량을 분석한 결과 지난주 같은 요일 대비 177.1% 늘었다고 16일 밝혔다. 14일과 비교해도 판매량은 144.9% 급증했다.

수돗물에서 유충이 발생했다는 소식은 지난 13일에 처음 알려진 후 15일 전후로 급속하게 확산됐다.

품목별로는 2L와 500mL 생수 매출이 각각 269.9%, 103.8% 증가한 것으로 집계됐다.

대용량 생수가 많이 판매된 것을 고려할 때 수돗물 대용으로 생수를 구매하려는 고객이 많아진 것으로 GS25는 분석했다.

CU와 세븐일레븐도 지난 14~15일 인천 서구에 있는 점포의 생수 판매량이 전주 같은 기간과 비교해 44.8%, 33.4% 늘었다고 밝혔다.

이마트24도 13~15일 인천 서구 지역 점포 생수 판매가 지난주 같은 기간 대비 82% 증가한 가운데 2L 대용량은 152%나 늘었다.

생수 판매가 급증하며 일부 편의점 점포들은 인기 생수 제품의 추가 물량을 본사에 요청한 것으로 전해졌다.

업계 관계자는 "유충이 발견됐다는 신고로 수돗물에 대한 불안감이 커지며 가까운 편의점에서 생활용수로 생수를 구매하는 고객이 늘고 있다"면서 "유충 발견 신고가 다른 지역으로 확산하면서 생수 수요는 더 커질 것으로 보인다"라고 밝혔다.
