(서울=연합뉴스) 정빛나 기자 = 군 당국이 26일 최근 한 탈북민이 개성을 통해 도로 월북했다는 북한 보도에 대해 '월북자 발생'을 사실상 공식 확인했다.

합동참모본부는 이날 "현재 군은 북 공개 보도와 관련, 일부 인원을 특정해 관계기관과 긴밀히 공조해 확인 중"이라고 밝혔다.

이어 "우리 군은 감시장비 녹화영상 등 대비태세 전반에 대해 합참 전비검열실에서 확인 중에 있다"고 말했다.

앞서 정부는 이날 오전까지만 해도 북한의 보도 내용에 대해 "확인 중"이라는 입장만 밝혔다.

그러나 북한 보도가 나온 지 약 8시간여 만에 월북 사례가 있었다는 데 무게를 두고 조사 중이라고 입장을 선회했다.

결국 군 당국이 북한 보도가 나온 이후에야 월북 사실을 인지한 셈이어서 조사 결과에 따라 또다시 군 경계태세에 대한 논란이 예상된다.

북한 조선중앙통신은 이날 오전 김정은 노동당 위원장 주재하에 당 중앙위원회 정치국 비상확대회의가 열린 사실을 보도하며 "개성시에서 악성비루스(코로나19)에 감염된 것으로 의심되는 월남 도주자가 3년 만에 불법적으로 분계선을 넘어 7월 19일 귀향하는 비상사건이 발생했다"고 보도했다.

이와 관련해 관계 당국은 탈북 시기를 2017년으로 압축해 이 시기 탈북자 중 연락이 닿지 않고 있는 인원은 김포에 거주하는 24세 김모씨 1명으로 특정해 조사 중인 것으로 전해졌다.

김씨는 김포 강화 교동도 일대를 사전 답사한 정황이 포착된 것으로 알려졌다.

개성에서 중학교까지 나온 김씨는 3년 전 한강 하구를 통해 탈북 후 김포에 거주한 것으로 파악됐다.

그는 지난달 중순께 김포 자택에서 평소 알고 지낸 탈북민 여성을 성폭행한 혐의(강간)로 같은 달 한 차례 피의자 신분으로 조사를 받았다.

북한이 '분계선'이라고 표현한 것 관련해 일각에서는 군사분계선(MDL) 철책이 뚫렸을 가능성도 제기했지만, 현재까지는 지상이 아닌 한강 하구를 통해 헤엄쳐 북한으로 넘어갔을 가능성이 큰 것으로 전해졌다.

다만 북한이 월북 날짜라고 특정한 19일은 북한 지역에 도달한 날짜로 적시했을 수도 있어 기간을 폭넓게 잡고 조사 중인 것으로 알려졌다.
