'언론에 대한 '징벌적 손해배상제도' 변협 토론회

(서울=연합뉴스) 박형빈 기자 = 대한변호사협회(협회장 이찬희)와 한국기자협회가 17일 오전 10시 대한변협회관에서 '언론에 대한 징벌적 손해배상제도'를 두고 토론회를 연다.

토론회에선 '가짜뉴스'를 보도한 언론에 대한 징벌적 손해배상제도 도입 문제와 관련해 제도의 취지, 시행에 따른 문제점과 개선방안 등에 대해 논의할 예정이다.

장철준 단국대학교 법과대학 교수가 주제발표를 맡고 윤여진 언론인권센터 상임이사, 김봉철 한국기자협회 부회장, 허윤 대한변협 수석대변인 등이 토론자로 참석한다.

대한변협은 "이번 토론회가 언론의 위상과 역할을 제고하고, 책임과 의무에 대해 되돌아보는 계기가 되길 희망한다"고 밝혔다.

한편 더불어민주당 정청래 의원은 지난달 9일 가짜뉴스를 보도한 언론에 대해 피해의 3배에 해당하는 손해배상을 청구할 수 있도록 하는 '징벌적 손해배상'을 골자로 하는 법률 개정안을 발의했다.
