터키, 리비아 동부 군벌 지원 시사한 이집트에 반발

(이스탄불=연합뉴스) 김승욱 특파원 = 내전 중인 리비아의 통합정부(GNA)를 지원하는 터키가 동부 군벌 세력인 리비아국민군(LNA) 지원을 시사한 이집트에 반발하고 나섰다.

레제프 타이이프 에르도안 터키 대통령은 17일(현지시간) 이스탄불에서 기자들과 만난 자리에서 "터키가 리비아와 협력해온 역사는 500년이 넘는다"며 "우리는 결코 리비아 형제들을 혼자 두지 않을 것"이라고 말했다.

이어 "리비아 통합정부와 협력을 강화하기로 결정했다"며 "이런 조치는 터키가 짊어져야 할 책임의 일부"라고 덧붙였다.

에르도안 대통령은 전날 GNA와 내전 중인 LNA를 지지하는 리비아 부족장을 만난 압델 파타 엘시시 이집트 대통령을 비판하기도 했다.

에르도안 대통령은 엘시시 대통령을 언급하며 "이집트가 반란군을 지원하는 것은 불법"이라고 비판했다.

엘시시 대통령은 전날 부족장들을 만난 자리에서 "이집트 정부의 목표는 리비아인들의 자유 의지를 지지하는 것"이라고 말했으며, 부족장들은 "이집트군이 리비아 주권을 보호하는 데 개입해야 한다"고 주장했다.

특히 엘시시 대통령은 지난달 20일 리비아와 가까운 서부 군 기지를 시찰하며 "국경 안에서 어떤 임무도 수행할 준비를 해라. 필요할 경우 국경 밖에서도 그렇게 해야 한다"며 리비아 내전 개입을 시사한 바 있다.

이집트 정부는 그동안 LNA에 은밀하게 무기 등을 지원해온 것으로 알려졌다.

리비아는 2011년 '아랍의 봄' 민중 봉기의 여파로 무아마르 카다피 정권이 무너진 후 서부를 통제하는 GNA와 LNA로 양분돼 내전 중이다.

유엔이 인정한 합법 정부인 GNA는 터키와 카타르의 도움을 받고 있으며, 동부 유전지대를 차지한 LNA는 사우디아라비아, 아랍에미리트(UAE), 이집트, 러시아 등의 지원을 받고 있다.

터키는 지난해 11월 GNA와 군사·안보협약을 체결하고 올해 1월 GNA를 돕기 위해 리비아에 병력을 파견했다.
