박지원 "미 대선 전 북미정상회담 가능성 열려있다"

(서울=연합뉴스) 조민정 기자 = 박지원 국가정보원장 후보자는 올해 11월 미국 대통령 선거 이전에 북미정상회담이 열릴 가능성에 대해 "개최 가능성이 열려 있다"고 밝혔다.

박 후보자는 25일 국회 정보위원회에 제출한 인사청문회 서면 질의 답변에서 "미국과 북한이 전례 없는 '톱다운' 방식을 통해 북핵 문제 해결과 한반도 평화 정착 노력을 전개해온 점에 주목해야 한다"며 이같이 분석했다.

그는 "미국 대선이 3개월여 남은 상황에서 3차 정상회담 실현 가능성에 회의적인 시각도 있다"면서 '도움이 된다면 정상회담을 개최할 것'이라는 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령의 발언을 들어 "북한의 호응 등 협상 여건이 성숙될 경우 개최 가능성이 열려있다고 생각한다"고 말했다.

박 후보자는 한반도 운전자론에 대해선 "정부가 한반도의 평화정착과 공동번영을 위해 할 수 있는 모든 일을 다 하고 있다고 본다"며 "현재 남북관계와 북미 관계가 어려운 상황이나, 모든 정치 외교적 역량을 모아 보다 적극적으로 개입해 나가야 한다"고 답했다.

또 자신의 이념 성향이 좌파, 중도, 우파 중 어디에 해당한다고 생각하느냐는 질문에는 "중도라고 생각한다"고 밝혔다.

박 후보자는 '북한은 주적인가'라는 질의에는 "정부는 대한민국의 주권·국토·국민 재산을 위협하고 침해하는 모든 세력을 '우리의 적'으로 간주하고 있다"며 "후보자도 전적으로 동의하면서 (북한은) 동시에 대화 평화통일의 상대이기도 하다"고 말했다.
