추미애 "이제 신천지까지 저를 공격…검찰개혁 반대에 합세"

(서울=연합뉴스) 김계연 기자 = 추미애 법무부 장관이 30일 신천지예수교 증거장막성전(신천지)을 겨냥해 "종교단체가 (검찰개혁 반대에) 합세한 것"이라고 주장했다.

추 장관은 이날 오후 페이스북에 글을 올려 "저에 대한 언론과 통합당의 무차별적이고 근거 없는 공격이 날로 심해지는 가운데 이제는 신천지까지 저를 공격하는 시점에 이르렀다"며 이렇게 말했다.

추 장관은 "검찰개혁에 반대하는 보수언론과 통합당으로부터 끊임없는 저항과 공격을 받고 있다"며 "정책 비판이 안되니 가족에 이어 이제는 개인 신상에 대한 공격까지 서슴없이 해오고 있다"고 적었다.

신천지가 '추 장관의 탄핵 청원에 동참하자'며 회의를 했다는 언론 보도와 '신천지 탄압이 부당하다'는 내용을 담은 우편물이 법무부에 배달되는 사실을 근거로 제시했다.

추 장관은 지난 2월 신천지의 역학조사 방해 등 불법행위를 압수수색 등 강제수사로 강력하게 대처하라고 검찰에 지시한 바 있다. 이만희(89) 신천지 총회장은 지난 28일 감염병예방법 위반 등 혐의로 구속영장이 청구된 상태다.

추 장관은 "실제로 이만희 씨가 검찰 조사를 받은 이후 법무부 장관 비서실에는 평소보다 많은 우편물이 도착하기 시작했다"고 주장했다.

한국 정부가 신천지를 탄압하고 있다는 내용의 전자우편은 최근 국회의원 보좌관과 상당수 기자들에게도 매일 여러 통씩 배달되고 있다.

추 장관은 "이걸 단순한 우연의 일치라고 봐야 할지, 뭔가 조직적인 움직임이 있는 것이라고 봐야 할지는 국민들과 함께 고민해 봐야겠다"고 제안했다.
