뉴욕증시, 美고용 부진·中증시 급락 부담 하락 출발

(뉴욕=연합뉴스) 오진우 연합인포맥스 특파원 = 뉴욕증시에서 주요 지수는 16일 미국의 실업 지표가 부진했던 데다, 중국 증시가 급락한 여파로 하락 출발했다.

오전 9시 43분(미 동부 시각) 현재 뉴욕증권거래소(NYSE)에서 다우존스 30 산업평균지수는 전장보다 165.59포인트(0.62%) 내린 26,704.51에 거래됐다.

스탠더드앤드푸어스(S&P) 500 지수는 전장보다 25.01포인트(0.78%) 하락한 3,201.55에, 기술주 중심의 나스닥 지수는 116.80포인트(1.11%) 떨어진 10,433.69에 거래됐다.

시장은 주요 경제 지표와 기업 실적, 미국과 중국의 대립 상황 등을 주시했다.

아시아 시장에서 중국 증시가 급락한 점이 글로벌 금융시장 전반을 압박했다.

중국 상하이종합지수는 전장 대비 4.50% 급락했다.

중국의 2분기 성장률이 전년 대비 3.2%를 기록해 시장 예상보다 양호했지만, 이에 따른 정부 부양책의 약화 가능성과 6월 소비지표의 부진 등이 불안감을 자극한 것으로 풀이된다.

중국의 6월 소매판매는 전년 대비 1.8% 감소해 시장의 0.3% 증가 기대에 못 미쳤다.

미국과 중국의 갈등이 심화하는 점도 불안 요인이다.

홍콩 문제 등을 두고 양국이 연일 충돌하는 가운데, 뉴욕타임스는 미정부가 중국 공산당원이나 그 가족의 미국 방문을 전면 금지하는 방안을 검토 중이라는 보도를 내놨다.

미국에 체류 중인 공산당원과 가족을 추방하는 방안도 검토 중인 것으로 알려지는 등 양국 관계의 긴장이 팽팽하다.

미국의 주간 실업보험청구자 수도 시장 예상보다 부진해 투자 심리를 저해했다.

노동부는 지난주 실업보험청구자 수가 전주보다 1만 명 줄어든 130만 명(계절 조정치)을 기록했다고 발표했다. 월스트리트저널이 집계한 예상치 125만 명보다 많았다.

신규 실업보험 청구자 수는 17주 연속 100만 명을 넘어서는 등 고용의 회복이 기대만큼 순탄하지 않은 상황이다.

다만 지난 4일로 끝난 주간까지 일주일 이상 실업보험을 청구한 사람의 수는 42만2천명 감소한 1천733만8천 명을 기록했다.

미국의 소매판매는 양호한 흐름을 이어갔지만, 불안감을 잠재우지는 못했다.

상무부는 6월 소매판매가 전월 대비 7.5% 증가했다고 발표했다. 시장 전망 5.2% 증가보다 양호했다. 지난 5월 소매판매도 기존 17.7% 증가가 18.2% 증가로 상향 조정됐다.

전문가들은 하지만 최근 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 재확산에 따른 봉쇄 조치 강화로 6월 이후 소비가 다시 타격을 받았을 가능성이 크다는 지적을 내놓고 있다.

주요 기업의 실적도 우려보다는 양호했다.

존슨앤드존슨(J&J)은 시장 예상보다 나은 순익과 매출을 기록했고, 올해 실적 전망(가이던스)도 상향 조정했다.

모건스탠리와 뱅크오브아메리카(BOA) 등 주요 은행의 2분기 순익도 예상을 상회했다.

다만 BOA가 40억 달러를 대손충당금으로 추가 적립하는 등 대출 부실화에 대한 우려는 지속했다.

이에따라 BOA 주가가 개장전 거래에서 3% 이상 하락하는 등 시장의 반응도 다소 부정적이었다. 모건스탠리 주가는 0.7%가량 상승세를 나타냈다.

유명 인물 계정에 대한 해킹 사태가 발생한 트위터 주가는 개장전 거래에서 4% 이상 내렸다.

한편 유럽중앙은행(ECB)은 이날 기준금리와 자산매입 정책 등 주요 정책 수단을 모두 동결했다. 예상된 결정인 만큼 시장에 별다른 영향을 미치지 않았다.

이날 발표된 다른 경제지표도 양호했다.

필라델피아 연방준비은행이 발표한 7월 필라델피아연은 지수는 전월 27.5에서 24.1로 하락했다. 시장 예상 20.0보다는 높았다.

뉴욕 증시 전문가들은 시장의 불확실성이 여전하다고 평가했다.

스트레트직 웰스 매니지먼트의 네이트 피셔 수석 투자 전략가는 "우리는 아직 숲에서 빠져나오지 못했으며, 코로나19 이전 경제로 돌아가는 것도 한참 멀었다"면서 "경제가 보건 문제로 문을 닫을 수밖에 없었던 만큼 보건상의 해법이 필요하다"고 진단했다.

그는 "지금까지는 이 문제에 대해 재정과 통화정책의 지원을 받았지만, 진짜 의료상의 치료법이 나오기 전까지는 시장이 변동성을 유지할 것"이라고 말했다.

유럽 주요국 증시도 약세다. 범유럽지수인 Stoxx 600지수는 0.51% 내렸다.

국제유가는 하락했다. 8월물 서부텍사스산 원유(WTI) 가격은 전 거래일보다 1.17% 하락한 40.70달러에, 브렌트유는 0.78% 내린 43.45달러에 움직였다.
