(서울=연합뉴스) 한상용 기자 = 한국과 중국이 9개월 만에 해양경계획정에 관한 국장급 회담을 화상회의 방식으로 열고 서해상 배타적 경제수역(EEZ) 획정 등을 논의했다고 외교부가 22일 밝혔다.

한국 측에서는 유기준 외교부 국제법률국장이, 중국 측에서는 왕샤오두 외교부 황해업무대사가 수석대표로 각각 참석했다.

한국 대표단에는 외교부뿐만 아니라 해양수산부와 관계부처·기관 관계자들도 참석했다.

양측은 이번 회담에서 EEZ 획정을 포함해 양국 간 해양경계 획정 추진 관련 제반 사항에 대해 폭넓은 의견 교환을 했다.

한국은 한중 해안선의 중간선을 EEZ 경계로 삼자는 '등거리 원칙'을, 중국은 해안선 길이 등 여러 사항을 고려해야 한다는 '형평의 원칙'을 내세우고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.

이번 회담은 지난해 10월 서울에서 열린 제6차 국장급 회담이후 올해 처음 개최된 것이다.

외교부 관계자는 "올 상반기에 회담을 열 예정이었으나 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)으로 인해 이번에 화상 회담을 열면서 한·중 해양경계획정 협상의 모멘텀을 유지하고 있다"고 말했다.
