"러시아 주요 인사들, 이미 4월에 시험용 코로나19 백신 맞아"

블룸버그 보도…러 국책 연구소 개발 백신 공식 임상시험은 6월 시작

(모스크바=연합뉴스) 유철종 특파원 = 러시아의 갑부 기업인들과 고위 정치인들이 이미 지난 4월에 자국에서 개발 중인 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 백신을 접종받은 것으로 확인됐다고 블룸버그 통신이 20일(현지시간) 보도했다.

보도에 따르면 러시아 주요 대기업 경영인들과 고위 정부 관리 수십명이 모스크바에 있는 러시아 보건부 산하 '가말레야 국립 전염병·미생물학 센터'가 개발한 백신을 지난 4월부터 맞기 시작한 것으로 확인됐다.

가말레야 센터가 개발한 백신에 대한 공식 1차 임상시험은 지난 6월부터 시작돼 이달 중순 마무리됐다.

일부 유력 인사들이 공식 임상시험이 시작되기 훨씬 이전에 이미 백신을 접종받은 셈이다.

통신은 수백명이 백신을 맞은 것으로 추정되나 확인된 인사는 수십명이라면서 이들이 어떻게 선발됐는지는 알려지지 않았다고 전했다.

백신 시험 접종이 불법은 아니나 자원자들이 폭증할 것을 우려해 비공식 접종이 비밀에 부쳐진 것으로 보인다고 통신은 설명했다.

통신이 확인한 한 고위 기업경영인은 "정상적인 생활을 하고 비즈니스 미팅을 정상적으로 하기 위해 위험을 감수했다"고 밝혔다.

다른 많은 기업인은 접종 제안을 받았지만, 아직 검증되지 않은 백신 접종에 따른 부작용을 우려해 거부한 것으로 전해졌다.

가말레야 센터는 러시아 국부펀드인 '직접투자펀드'(RDIF)의 투자와 국방부의 후원을 받아 백신 개발을 추진해 오고 있다. 모스크바의 세체노프 의대와 부르덴코 군사병원에서 각각 38명씩의 자원자를 대상으로 한 1차 임상 시험이 이달 중순 마무리됐다.

1차 임상 시험에서 항체 생성이 확인됐으며 별다른 부작용은 나타나지 않았다고 시험 기관들은 밝혔다.

가말레야 센터는 현재 2차 임상시험을 진행 중인 것으로 전해졌다.

백신 개발에 투자한 RDIF의 최고경영자(CEO) 키릴 드미트리예프는 지난주 러시아, 사우디아라비아, 아랍에미리트(UAE) 국민들을 대상으로 한 3차 임상시험이 8월에 시작될 것이며 9월이면 백신이 공급될 수 있을 것이라고 했다.

서방에선 통상 백신의 안전성과 효능을 확실히 점검하기 위해 대규모 인원을 대상으로 한 3차 임상시험을 수개월 동안 진행하지만 러시아는 시험 기간을 훨씬 단축할 수 있다는 설명으로 해석됐다.

러시아와 서방은 백신 개발에서도 치열한 경쟁을 벌이고 있다.

영국 국립사이버안보센터(NCSC)는 지난주 이른바 '코지 베어'로 알려진 러시아 정보기관 연계해커 그룹 'APT29'가 미국, 영국, 캐나다 등 서방 학계 및 제약업계의 코로나19 연구 성과를 해킹하려 시도했다고 발표한 바 있다.

이에 드미트리예프 RDIF 최고경영자는 "이 모든 얘기(해킹 주장)는 러시아의 성공을 두려워하는 일부 사람들이 러시아 백신에 먹칠을 하려는 시도이며, 러시아 백신이 가장 먼저 시장에 출시될 수 있고 가장 효과가 있을 수 있기 때문에 나오는 험담"이라고 반박했다.

타티야나 골리코바 러시아 부총리는 앞서 지난 15일 러시아가 26종류의 코로나19 백신을 개발하고 있으며 가까운 시일 내에 그것을 사용할 수 있을 것이라고 밝혔다.
