(대전=연합뉴스) 김준호 기자 = 대전시가 원도심 주차 공간 확보를 위해 '소상공인 상생주차장 조성 사업'을 추진한다.

15일 시에 따르면 원도심 방문객이 겪는 주차 불편을 해결하기 위해 2022년까지 대종로·대흥로 지하 공간에 주차장을 조성해 주차공간 400면을 확보할 방침이다.

시는 현재 주차장 기본 설계를 위한 절차를 밟고 있다.

이 사업은 지난해 4월 중소벤처기업부 주차환경개선사업으로 선정돼 국비 60억원을 지원받는다.

시는 국비 포함 240억원을 투입해 중구 대종로 446 일원(대종로·대흥로) 지하에 1만4천㎡ 규모로 주차장을 건설할 계획이다.

오는 9월 설계용역에 들어간 뒤 내년 7월 착공해 2022년 12월 공사를 완료할 예정이다.

시는 도로 지하 공간을 활용할 경우 주차장 대지 확보 비용으로 110억원을 절약할 수 있을 것으로 보고 있다.

지상에 주차장 대지를 마련할 경우 건물 등을 철거해야 하는데, 도로 밑 공간에 주차장을 만들면 건물에 입주한 상인들의 생존권도 보호할 수 있게 된다.

기존에 들어선 원도심 주차 빌딩은 골목에 자리 잡고 있어 이용객들이 찾기 어려운 상황이다.

시는 큰 도로를 활용해 지하 주차장을 만들면 누구나 쉽게 찾을 수 있어 원도심 방문객들이 편리하게 이용할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

시는 설계·시공을 맡게 될 대전도시공사, 중구와 함께 지난 4월 상생주차장 추진 위·수탁 협약을 맺었다.

대전시 관계자는 "이미 서울과 부산에서는 도로 지하 공간을 활용한 주차장이 운영되고 있다"며 "상생주차장이 건설되면 원도심 활성화에 기여할 것"이라고 말했다.
