코로나19 백신·치료제 임상시험 속도전…해외제품도 확보 노력

(서울=연합뉴스) 강애란 기자 = 국내 기업들이 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 백신과 치료제 개발을 위한 임상시험에 속도를 내고 있다.

26일 중앙재난안전대책본부(중대본)에 따르면 제넥신은 내년 하반기 개발 완료를 목표로 지난 6월 11일 DNA 백신 임상시험에 착수했고, SK바이오사이언스와 진원생명과학 등도 연내 임상시험 진입을 목표로 준비 작업을 하고 있다.

치료제 개발을 위한 임상시험도 곧 시작된다.

GC녹십자와 국립보건연구원은 올 하반기 내에 혈장치료제 임상시험에 진입한다.

또 셀트리온과 국립보건연구원은 앞서 지난 17일 항체치료제 개발을 위한 임상시험 계획을 승인받았으며, 하반기 중 임상시험을 시작할 계획이다.

백신·치료제 개발 임상시험과 별개로 약물 재창출 연구를 위한 임상시험도 지금까지 총 15건이 승인됐다고 중대본은 밝혔다.

정부는 국내 백신·치료제 개발 노력과 동시에 해외제품을 확보하는 방안도 함께 추진한다.

전 세계적으로 임상시험 단계에 있는 백신 후보물질은 24종으로, 영국 아스트라제네카와 미국 모더나, 중국 시노팜 등이 선두그룹으로 꼽힌다.

치료제는 에볼라 치료제인 미국 길리어드사의 렘데시비르가 우리나라를 비롯해 주요국에서 긴급사용 승인을 받고 환자들에게 투여되고 있다. 혈장치료제, 항체치료제 등의 신약도 하반기 임상시험이 개시된다.

정부는 세계보건기구(WHO)가 2021년 말까지 20억 회분의 백신 보급 목표를 제시함에 따라 백신공급 메커니즘인 '코백스 퍼실리티'(COVAX Facility)에 대한 참여의향서를 제출했다.
